Apply & track with Apply EdgeMedical Director / Sr. Medical Director - Clinical DevelopmentHybrid or remote with monthly travel.Meet Life Sciences is partnering with a San Diego-based biotechnology company seeking a Medical Director, Clinical Development to support the advancement of innovative autoimmune programs from early clinical development through later-stage studies.This individual will provide medical and scientific leadership across clinical strategy, protocol development, study execution, medical monitoring, data review, regulatory interactions, and external engagement with investigators, key opinion leaders, and health authorities. The role is well-suited for a physician with strong autoimmune or rheumatology expertise who is comfortable operating in a hands-on, cross-functional biotech environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide clinical leadership for comprehensive and integrated Clinical Development Plans across autoimmune programs, from first-in-human studies through registrational development.Contribute to clinical study design, lead protocol development, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on study start-up activities.Partner with clinical investigators, key opinion leaders, external advisors, and health authorities to support clinical strategy and program execution.Maintain hands-on involvement across all aspects of clinical study conduct, including medical monitoring, patient safety oversight, data review, analysis, and clinical reporting.Ensure clinical activities are conducted to the highest ethical, safety, quality, GCP, and regulatory standards.Review and interpret emerging scientific literature, competitive intelligence, and therapeutic landscape developments to inform clinical strategy.Attend relevant scientific and medical meetings to remain current on autoimmune disease research and treatment advances.Review available preclinical data to help inform the design of future clinical trials.Participate in investigator meetings, site initiation visits, advisory boards, and external presentations as needed.Contribute to clinical regulatory documents, including Clinical Study Reports, Annual Reports, safety reports, Health Authority briefing packages, Investigator Brochures, and other periodic clinical reports.Support Health Authority interactions and clinical regulatory submissions as needed.Collaborate with cross-functional teams on publication strategy, including the preparation and review of manuscripts, abstracts, congress presentations, and other external communications of clinical data.May contribute to business development, investor-related activities, or external partnering discussions as a clinical representative.May oversee direct reports, contractors, consultants, or external clinical development partners.
Qualifications
M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent medical degree required.Board certification or board eligibility in rheumatology, internal medicine or immunology is strongly preferred.4+ years of clinical development experience, including clinical trial design and execution within a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or CRO environment.Experience or exposure to adoptive cell therapies, biologic therapies, or other advanced therapeutic modalities is desirable.Strong understanding of GCP, clinical safety, medical monitoring, and clinical trial execution standards.Ability to engage effectively with investigators, KOLs, external advisors, and cross-functional internal stakeholders.Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent clinical programs in scientific, advisory, regulatory, and public-facing settings.Ability to multi-task across multiple programs and flexibly contribute to various aspects of drug development in a fast-moving environment.
