Veterinary Medical Director Our client, a privately-owned veterinary hospital serving the greater San Mateo and San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Medical Director to lead their clinical team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the direction of a growing, multi-specialty practice known for delivering exceptional, personalized care to both pets and referring veterinarians.About the RoleThe Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and oversight across the hospital's emergency and specialty departments, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, staff development, and operational excellence. This role blends hands-on clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, working closely with hospital ownership and department leads to guide the practice's continued growth.What You'll DoProvide clinical leadership and oversight for emergency and specialty medical teamsMaintain and elevate standards of care across all departments, ensuring consistency, safety, and quality in patient outcomesMentor, support, and help develop associate veterinarians and clinical staffCollaborate with hospital leadership on strategic growth, service line expansion, and operational planningServe as a key point of contact for referring veterinarians, reinforcing strong relationships within the veterinary communityHelp develop and enforce clinical protocols, policies, and best practicesSupport recruitment, onboarding, and retention of veterinary talentMaintain an active caseload and continue practicing clinical medicine alongside leadership responsibilitiesChampion a culture of collaboration, compassion, and continuous learning among staffStay current on advancements in veterinary medicine and integrate new techniques/technologies as appropriateWhat We're Looking ForStrong clinical judgment and hands-on experience in emergency and/or specialty veterinary medicineProven leadership or management experience within a veterinary hospital settingExcellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust with staff, clients, and referring veterinariansA collaborative, team-oriented approach paired with the confidence to make sound clinical and operational decisionsPassion for mentoring and developing veterinary talentComfort operating in a fast-paced, high-acuity environmentQualificationsDVM (or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary programActive veterinary license in good standing (or eligibility for licensure in California)Several years of clinical experience, with prior leadership, supervisory, or medical director experience strongly preferredBoard certification in a relevant specialty a plus, but not requiredBenefits: Base salary in the range of $350-$420k, DOEBonus potentialComprehensive benefits
