Apply & track with Apply EdgeMedical Director — Nationwide TelehealthQC Healthcare | Remote, United StatesReports to: Chief Executive OfficerPosition SummaryQC Healthcare seeks an experienced Medical Director to lead clinical operations, physician oversight, and quality improvement across its nationwide telehealth organization, including My Pediatric Doctor, My Adult Doctor, and future specialty care programs.This physician leader will oversee a geographically distributed physician team supporting 24/7 urgent care and primary care services. The Medical Director will establish clinical standards, support physician recruitment and development, monitor patient safety and performance, and collaborate with executive leadership to expand accessible, high-quality virtual care.Candidates must hold an MD degree, maintain active and unrestricted medical licenses in all 50 states, and have more than five years of telehealth experience and more than five years of physician management or clinical leadership experience. Demonstrated pediatric clinical experience is required.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership and Physician ManagementLead and oversee physicians delivering pediatric and adult telehealth services nationwide.Establish clear expectations for clinical quality, professionalism, documentation, responsiveness, and patient communication.Participate in physician recruitment, clinical interviews, onboarding, training, performance reviews, and corrective action.Support staffing and coverage plans for a 24/7 care model, including defined clinical escalation and leadership availability.Provide physician consultation for complex cases while respecting specialty competency and independent clinical judgment.Patient Safety and QualityDevelop and maintain evidence-based protocols for urgent care, primary care, pediatric assessment, prescribing, referrals, and follow-up.Establish criteria for when virtual care is appropriate and when patients require in-person evaluation or emergency care.Lead chart reviews, peer review, incident investigation, patient complaint review, and quality improvement.Monitor clinical outcomes, prescribing patterns, documentation quality, patient experience, wait times, and continuity of care.Maintain pediatric safeguards addressing age-appropriate assessment, medication dosing, parental or guardian consent, and escalation.Credentialing, Compliance, and PrescribingCollaborate with credentialing and compliance teams to verify physician licensure, board certification, DEA registration, payer enrollment, and ongoing eligibility.Support compliance with applicable telehealth, privacy, consent, documentation, and prescribing requirements.Maintain active DEA registration authorizing Schedule IV prescribing and all additional state registrations or authorizations required for assigned clinical duties.Oversee controlled-substance prescribing policies, prescription monitoring practices, and electronic prescribing workflows, consistent with applicable requirements and company policy.Ensure each physician practices within their own licensure, prescribing authority, training, and approved scope of work.Technology and Care CoordinationWork with operations and technology teams to improve EHR workflows, clinical documentation, interoperability, referrals, and care transitions.Provide clinical oversight of AI-supported screening, patient interactions, and decision-support tools, including validation, monitoring, and appropriate physician review.Support coordination with primary care practices, specialists, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, and behavioral health partners.Help design safe clinical workflows for future veterans’ care, oncology support, and other specialty programs.Payer and Strategic SupportCollaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams on accurate coding, medical necessity documentation, payer requirements, and clinical denial review.Support clinical discussions with payers, employers, health systems, physician groups, and other partners.Advise executive leadership on clinical readiness, staffing, service expansion, and operational priorities.Support clinical trial partnerships and patient care coordination where appropriate, maintaining clear responsibilities between routine clinical care and research activities.Required QualificationsDoctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution or recognized international equivalent.Completion of an accredited residency or recognized equivalent.Current board certification in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a closely relevant specialty.Active, current, unrestricted medical licenses in all 50 U.S. states, maintained throughout employment.At least 10 years of physician clinical practice experience.More than five years of telehealth experience, including direct patient care.More than five years of physician management or clinical leadership experience, with responsibility for supervising, evaluating, and developing physicians.Demonstrated pediatric clinical experience and ability to oversee pediatric care protocols. Internal medicine candidates must also demonstrate relevant pediatric experience.Active DEA registration authorizing Schedule IV prescribing, with applicable state prescribing authorizations maintained for assigned duties.Good standing with medical boards and relevant credentialing bodies, with no current restrictions that prevent performance of the role.Eligibility for payer credentialing and enrollment, with no current exclusion from federal healthcare programs.Strong knowledge of clinical quality improvement, peer review, telehealth operations, and patient safety.Proficiency with EHR systems, virtual care platforms, electronic prescribing, and clinical reporting.Strong communication, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to lead a remote physician team.Ability to meet credentialing, background screening, and professional liability coverage requirements.A private, secure remote workspace and reliable connectivity.Preferred QualificationsBoard certification in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or combined Internal Medicine–Pediatrics.Experience leading a multistate or nationwide physician organization.Outpatient medical office or practice management experience.Payer experience, including utilization management, medical necessity review, credentialing, reimbursement, or clinical appeals.Clinical trial experience, including research coordination, participant care, or familiarity with Good Clinical Practice.Oncology experience or experience coordinating supportive care for patients with cancer.Experience serving veterans, rural communities, or other populations facing access barriers.Experience integrating behavioral health services and managing referral relationships.Experience evaluating healthcare AI, remote diagnostic tools, and connected medical devices.Additional active licensure in Puerto Rico and Guam.Advanced training in healthcare administration, quality improvement, informatics, or business leadership.Measures of SuccessSuccess will be evaluated through clinical quality and patient safety, physician performance and retention, appropriate prescribing, timely documentation, reliable coverage, effective referrals and follow-up, and readiness to support new care programs.Application MaterialsCandidates should provide a current CV, a list of active state medical licenses and expiration dates, board certification details, a summary of telehealth and physician management experience, and professional references.
