Medical Director Spine Surgery

Our partner is looking for a Medical Director, Spine Surgery based in United States.This is a senior clinical role for an orthopedic or neurosurgical spine specialist supporting musculoskeletal and orthopedic care programs. You will assess the medical appropriateness of services using clinical expertise, evidence-based guidelines, and established medical necessity criteria. Working within a collaborative clinical review team, you will help ensure timely, accurate, and well-documented decisions that support patients and providers. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to clinical quality, operational improvements, and provider experience within a rapidly scaling healthcare environment. Success requires adaptability, strong judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly across clinical and non-clinical teams. This is a fully remote opportunity with limited travel and significant responsibility for shaping high-quality clinical review processes.AccountabilitiesConduct timely medical reviews of orthopedic and spine-related services while meeting established quality and turnaround-time standards.Make clinical determinations using evidence-based guidelines, medical necessity criteria, and independent clinical judgment.Accurately document clinical reviews, communications, and decision-making in designated workflow systems so decisions are clear and accessible to members and providers.Apply appropriate documentation templates and workflows throughout the case review process.Conduct timely peer-to-peer discussions with treating providers to clarify clinical information, communicate review outcomes, and discuss alternative treatments supported by medical necessity criteria and evidence-based research.Maintain a high standard of professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, and service when working with providers and internal teams.Contribute to initiatives designed to strengthen clinical expertise, improve review efficiency, and enhance operational processes.Support projects focused on improving member and provider experiences related to clinical review activities, as assigned.RequirementsCompletion of a U.S.-based residency in Orthopedic Surgery or Neurosurgery and a fellowship in Spine Surgery.MD or DO degree with board certification and a current, unrestricted state medical license; all required credentials must be maintained throughout employment.At least 5 years of clinical practice experience following residency and fellowship training.At least 1 year of experience in managed care utilization review.Membership in national and/or regional specialty societies.Licensure in Arizona, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, or Texas is highly desirable.Willingness to obtain additional state medical licenses, with organizational support provided where applicable.Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, written documentation, and verbal communication skills.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly, navigate ambiguity, and collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.BenefitsAnnual salary range of $260,000–$280,000, plus bonus and comprehensive benefits.Fully remote work opportunity with approximately 5% travel.Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.Employee Assistance Program (EAP).401(k) retirement plan with company match.Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options.Flexible Time Off and company holidays.Up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave.Pet insurance.This role is not eligible for hire in Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New York, or Washington.Compensation decisions may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and internal considerations.How Jobgether WorksWe use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
