This hands-on role ensures accurate, compliant, and timely testing across Microbiology.You will lead a team of laboratory technicians while driving workflow efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring a safe, productive work environment. Responsibilities
Quality, Safety & Technical ExcellenceEnsure adherence to SOPs, ISO 17025 standards, GLP, and regulatory requirementsMaintain data integrity, accurate testing, and proper documentationCoach team members on quality control and laboratory best practicesPrepare the laboratory and staff for internal and external auditsMaintain a clean, organized, and compliant lab environmentPromote and enforce a strong culture of safetyOperations & Workflow ManagementLead daily operational huddles to align on priorities, staffing, and workflowManage sample tracking, data entry, and reporting through LIMSAllocate staffing based on testing volume and prioritiesIdentify and drive process improvements to increase efficiency and throughputMaintain performance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentPeople Leadership & DevelopmentSupervise and develop a team of laboratory techniciansFoster a high-performance, accountable, and engaging team cultureConduct performance reviews and regular 1:1 coaching conversationsSupport employee growth through training and career developmentManage staffing plans, scheduling, and workforce planningDrive retention through engagement and development initiativesCustomer FocusEnsure timely and accurate reporting of resultsEscalate out-of-specification results appropriatelySupport resolution of client inquiries and concernsMaintain professionalism in all customer interactions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or the biological sciences requiredMinimum 3 years of experience leading an hourly workforce in an operations environmentExperience in commercial laboratory testing or manufacturing preferred (e.g., food, cosmetics, tobacco)Strong understanding of quality and safety standardsAbility to interpret technical and regulatory documentsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesExperience working in fast-paced, dynamic environmentsTechnical & Analytical SkillsWorking knowledge of statistical concepts and data interpretationAbility to apply mathematical concepts such as percentages, ratios, and proportionsWork Environment & Physical RequirementsExposure to laboratory conditions including chemicals, biological materials, and varying noise levelsRequired use of personal protective equipment (PPE)Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periodsMay occasionally lift up to 50 poundsSchedule may include nights and weekends based on business needsBy applying, you acknowledge that Certified Group will process your personal information for recruitment and hiring purposes in accordance with our Applicant Privacy Policy.
