ResponsibilitiesPlanning and preparationDemonstrates extensive knowledge of content, IB Program(s), and pedagogyDemonstrates comprehensive knowledge of studentsDemonstrates high-level instructional outcomes and knowledge of resourcesDesigns thoughtful, targeted language instruction designed to help students succeed in the classroom, in their communications, and on assessmentsUtilizes standardized test data and departmental assessment data to inform planning and instruction in EAL sessionsProvides appropriate and level-specific lessons and homework to allow EAL students to master the English language and participate effectively in the general education program as quickly as possible The classroom environmentCreates and maintains an inclusive classroom environment, containing consistent respect and rapportEstablishes and sustains a strong culture for learningStrong classroom management and student behavior management proceduresEffectively organizes physical space to maximize learning Communication and Collaboration:Communicates effectively and appropriately with parents to help support student growth and language acquisitionCollaborates effectively with classroom teachers to provide effective push-in support for EAL students in the classroom settingMaintains information on student progress in a fully effective manner, including all required documentsProvides clear, regular, and specific information about the progress, goals, and needs of EAL students to each of their classroom teachers, parents, and department head on a monthly basisProfessional responsibilitiesActively participates in the Dwight professional communityThe teacher consistently demonstrates professionalismFulfills additional departmental obligations including monthly lunch activities, Language Lunch supervision, after-school EAL extra help, and an EAL class trip. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree requiredMaster’s Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or related fields preferredExperience teaching Middle and High School studentsExperience teaching to a wide range of learners including beginning EAL studentsExperience with thoughtful integration of technology into curriculaEagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight School communityWillingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences We are committed to making our recruitment practices barrier-free and as accessible as possible for everyone.
