Mobile App Developer Intern

Sophinea is an AI, data, and analytics firm in Manassas, Virginia, serving federal and commercial clients since 2018. We build AI products including Halo, our secure AI and analytics platform.As a Mobile App Developer Intern, you'll help build mobile apps that bring AI and data capabilities to users on the go. You'll write production code, ship features, and learn how a professional software team plans, reviews, and releases work.What you'll do:Build and test features for iOS and Android apps using [React Native / Flutter / Swift and Kotlin]Turn UI/UX designs into responsive, accessible screensConnect apps to backend services and APIs, including AI and analytics servicesWrite unit and integration tests, and help fix bugsTake part in code reviews, standups, and sprint planning using GitHub and LinearHelp prepare builds for testing and app store releaseA typical day might include a team standup, building a feature from a ticket, opening a pull request for review, and pairing with a senior engineer on a tricky bug.This is a paid, part-time, semester-long internship (about 10-15 hours per week), hybrid in Manassas, VA.RequirementsCurrently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, software engineering, or a related fieldCoursework or project experience building at least one mobile or web appProgramming experience in JavaScript/TypeScript, Dart, Swift, or KotlinFamiliarity with Git and working in a shared codebaseUnderstanding of REST APIs and how apps fetch and display dataAble to work on-site in Manassas on hybrid daysNice to have:An app published to the App Store or Google Play, or a public GitHub portfolioExperience with backend services such as Supabase or FirebaseExperience calling LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI) from an appInterest in mobile security and privacy practicesBenefitsPaid internshipFlexible part-time schedule built around your class loadHybrid work: on-site collaboration in Manassas plus remote daysShipped code in real products, with mentorship from senior engineersHands-on experience with modern mobile, cloud, and AI toolingExposure to how AI products are built for federal and commercial clients
