In 2018, the business invested in a state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) at its Reading Quarry site, strengthening its commitment to sustainable operations and high-quality material recovery.Role Description The Mobile Plant Mechanic role is a full-time position based in the Greater Reading Area. This role involves the inspection, servicing, and repair of mobile plant equipment such as excavators, loaders, crushers, and other machinery used in demolition and recycling operations. The Mobile Plant Mechanic will diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults, perform routine maintenance, and ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and compliant with relevant regulations. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out planned maintenance schedules, responding to breakdowns, maintaining accurate service records, and collaborating with site teams to minimise downtime. The role also requires adherence to health and safety procedures and contribution to continuous improvement of maintenance practices.QualificationsStrong mechanical skills in maintaining and repairing mobile plant, heavy machinery, and hydraulic systems.Ability to diagnose faults, interpret technical manuals, and use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.Experience working in construction, demolition, quarrying, or recycling environments with a focus on equipment reliability and safety.Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards, with a commitment to safe working practices.Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operators, supervisors, and other maintenance team members.Relevant vocational qualifications or apprenticeship in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field.Full UK driving license and flexibility to support different sites and respond to urgent maintenance needs.Previous experience as a mobile plant or heavy equipment mechanic is highly advantageous.
