It explores how historical and contemporary social, economic and organisational developments shape modern workplaces, employee experiences and organisational practices, with an international and comparative perspective throughout.Key Teaching AreasSociology of work and its relevance to modern organisationsKey sociological thinkers: Marx, Durkheim and WeberTaylorism, Braverman and RitzerLabour Process TheoryFordism and changing patterns of workSocio-technical theoryEmergence of large-scale organisationsGlobalisation and its impact on work and employmentConflict and resistance in the workplaceEmployment trends and changing labour marketsTechnology and its impact on workers and organisationsEmployee wellbeingSocietal and political influences on employmentEmotional labour and aesthetic labourInternational and cross-cultural comparisons of workplace practicesHRM policies and practices for high-performance organisationsCandidate ProfileMaster’s degree or higher in Human Resource Management, Sociology, Organisational Behaviour, Management, Business Administration, Employment Relations, or a closely related disciplineStrong understanding of the sociology of work, organisational behaviour and contemporary employment practicesAbility to apply sociological theories and concepts to modern workplace and organisational contextsGood understanding of globalisation, labour processes, employee wellbeing and changing employment trendsPrior higher education teaching experience preferredCandidates with at least one year of teaching experience in an international, transnational, or foreign-affiliated higher education programme will be prioritisedExperience teaching Sociology of Work, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Employment Relations, People and Organisations, or related modules will be advantageousAbility to facilitate critical discussion and international comparisons of organisational and employment practices will be highly valuedThe successful candidate will be responsible for module delivery, assessment, student support, academic quality assurance, and supporting students in critically applying sociological and organisational theories to contemporary workplace issues.Interested candidates are invited to apply with their CV.
