The successful candidate will oversee motion capture sessions from concept and preparation through recording, performance direction, data quality control, and delivery. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary role working closely with performers, character artists, animators, technical artists, AI specialists, 3D artists, directors, and production teams to transform human movement, gestures, facial expressions, and performance into convincing digital character experiences. The ideal candidate understands both the artistic language of performance and the technical requirements of modern motion capture pipelines.ResponsibilitiesLead the creative and technical direction of motion capture projects for AI characters, digital humans, virtual identities, games, films, immersive environments, and interactive experiences.Develop motion capture plans, performance requirements, shot lists, movement libraries, and session schedules based on character and project needs.Direct performers and actors during motion capture sessions, providing clear guidance on movement, timing, emotion, physicality, gestures, and character behavior.Plan and supervise full-body, facial, hand, finger, and body-performance capture sessions using appropriate motion capture technologies and workflows.Work closely with character designers, animators, directors, and AI teams to translate character concepts into believable physical and behavioral performances.Define the movement language, physical personality, posture, gestures, expressions, and behavioral patterns of digital characters.Coordinate motion capture stages, equipment, performers, technical crews, and production resources.Collaborate with technical teams to ensure correct calibration, tracking, recording, synchronization, and data capture.Review captured performance data for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and suitability for downstream animation and AI systems.Identify and resolve common capture issues including tracking loss, occlusion, calibration problems, noisy data, inconsistent performances, and synchronization errors.Work with animation and technical-art teams on retargeting, cleanup, editing, blending, and integration of motion data into digital characters.Develop reusable motion libraries and performance datasets for different characters, emotions, actions, interactions, and environments.Coordinate facial and hand-performance capture where required to create expressive and natural digital human behavior.Support the development of character-specific performance systems, including walking styles, gestures, reactions, conversational behaviors, and emotional responses.Collaborate with AI and machine-learning teams when motion and performance data is used for character intelligence, behavioral modeling, or interactive character systems.Maintain production documentation covering capture protocols, equipment configurations, performer direction, file structures, naming conventions, and data specifications.Manage motion capture schedules, production priorities, external vendors, performers, and technical resources.Monitor project milestones and ensure captured material is delivered according to agreed technical and creative specifications.Contribute to experimentation with new motion capture technologies, AI-assisted animation, procedural movement, real-time character systems, and emerging digital-human pipelines.QualificationsMinimum BA/MA or equivalent professional experience in Animation, Film, Virtual Production, Game Development, Performing Arts, Computer Graphics, Motion Design, Digital Media, or a related field. At least 3–5 years of professional experience in motion capture, animation, virtual production, game development, VFX, digital humans, performance technology, or a related field.Demonstrable experience directing performers or actors in motion capture or performance-based digital production environments.Strong understanding of motion capture workflows, including preparation, calibration, recording, data management, cleanup, retargeting, and integration.Experience with one or more motion capture systems or technologies such as optical, inertial, markerless, facial, or hand/finger capture.Strong understanding of human movement, body mechanics, acting, gesture, facial expression, and performance direction.Ability to translate abstract character concepts, personalities, and emotional states into specific physical performances.Experience working with 3D character pipelines and software such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, Blender, MotionBuilder, or comparable tools.Familiarity with animation principles, rigging, retargeting, keyframe animation, motion editing, and character pipelines.Understanding of digital-human, AI-character, virtual-production, or real-time rendering workflows is highly desirable.Experience collaborating with AI engineers, technical artists, animators, character designers, directors, and other interdisciplinary teams.Strong project management and production coordination skills, including scheduling, documentation, troubleshooting, and delivery management.Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to direct performers while collaborating effectively with highly technical teams.Strong attention to detail and a high standard for natural, expressive, and believable digital performance.Portfolio, showreel, or documented track record of motion capture, character animation, virtual production, digital-human, or performance-based projects.Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset. What We OfferThe opportunity to lead the motion capture and performance direction of next-generation AI characters, digital humans, and virtual identities.A highly interdisciplinary environment bringing together AI, animation, digital art, virtual production, storytelling, and immersive technologies. The opportunity to work with performers, directors, character artists, animators, AI specialists, and technical artists.Access to emerging motion capture, AI character, real-time rendering, and digital-human technologies. The opportunity to develop original character-performance systems and reusable motion libraries.A collaborative team environment where creative experimentation and technical innovation are strongly encouraged.Competitive
