The role involves general counselling for students, with the ability to handle crisis situations when they arise.We are looking for psychologists who are:
- Driven by purpose more than by job title.
- Steady and composed when students are at their lowest.
- Proactive, take ownership, and speak up when something needs fixing.
- Neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming in their approach.This role matters because you will support a highly neurodiverse student population, where the right support at the right moment makes a real difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide in-person counselling and psychological support to students during assigned shifts.
- Deliver neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming support.
- Facilitate psychoeducational workshops, peer-support, and group sessions.
- Handle crisis situations (including self-harm and suicidal ideation) with risk assessment, safety planning, and referral protocols.
- Coordinate with psychologists, psychiatrists, emergency services, and institute stakeholders when escalation is required.
- Contribute to wellbeing, awareness, and early-intervention initiatives on campus.
- Maintain confidential documentation and participate in case discussions and supervision.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology from a recognised institution.
- 2–4 years of counselling or mental health experience.
- Experience working with neurodivergent individuals (ADHD, autism, learning differences) using affirming approaches.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed care.
- Ability to handle crisis and high-risk cases with knowledge of risk assessment, safety planning, confidentiality, and referral protocols.
- Strong communication and active listening skills; ability to stay composed in emotionally intense situations.
- Self-driven, proactive, and able to work independently.Preferred Profile:
- Counsellors with QPR training or other formal training in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, or Psychological First Aid.
- Male counsellors preferred.
- Prior experience with university students or young adults.
