Operations Analyst (Operations and Trading Team)

Chiswick, West London | Up to £45,000 DOE + bonus | 7:30am–3:30pmWe're recruiting an Operations Analyst for a successful, growing financial trading business based in Chiswick.This is a hands-on role combining daily operational reporting and reconciliations with data analysis, problem-solving and process improvement.You don't need previous commodities or trading experience. We're particularly interested in candidates from finance/accounting, banking or financial services operations, middle/back office, reporting, data or business operations who are strong in Excel, comfortable working with data and enjoy investigating problems and improving how things are done.You'll need strong Excel skills and fundamental SQL knowledge – enough to write a basic query, pull data and check it. More important is your curiosity, attention to detail and ability to take ownership.The role offers significant opportunity to develop your skills in automation, systems and broader business analysis.The roleYou'll join a small Operations team responsible for the processes that keep the trading business running smoothly.There is a clear daily rhythm to the role. Certain things need to happen accurately and on time every day so the trading team can do their job. You'll take ownership of those processes, but you'll also be encouraged to understand the "why", investigate when something doesn't look right and find better ways of doing things.Your responsibilities will include:

• Daily P&L reconciliations, investigating and resolving errors when the numbers don't agree
• Daily reporting and operational processes to support the trading team
• Monitoring live P&L and issuing alerts throughout the day
• Monitoring trade flows and ensuring deadlines are met
• Maintaining and taking ownership of models and reports
• Identifying opportunities to improve and automate repetitive workflows
• Working closely with Trading and Engineering to flag and resolve issues
• Translating business requirements into clear information for technical teams
• Liaising with brokers, vendors and IT support to resolve issuesWho are we looking for?There isn't one particular career path into this role.You might currently be working in:
• Finance or accounting, particularly if your role involves reconciliations, reporting, controls and analysing data
• Banking, investment or financial services operations
• Trading operations or middle/back office
• Reporting, MI or data

• A broader operational role where Excel, data accuracy and problem-solving are a big part of your dayYou may also be returning to work after a career break. A gap on your CV isn't a barrier – the client is interested in what you can do now and the skills and experience you can bring.What you'll needStrong Excel skills are important. You should be comfortable working with data and using Excel as part of your day-to-day work.You'll also need fundamental SQL skills – enough to write a basic query, pull data and check it. You don't need to be an SQL expert, and if you've taught yourself the basics and are keen to develop further, that's absolutely fine.Beyond that, we're looking for someone who:

• Is comfortable challenging ideas and contributing their ownExperience with Excel macros/VBA, Python, Bloomberg or Reuters, financial services operations, derivatives or Agile ways of working would be useful, but none of these are essential.You don't need previous commodities experience – you'll be taught what you need to know.Working patternThe regular shift for this role is 7:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday.The Operations and Trading teams work two shifts to cover the UK and US markets, so there will occasionally be a requirement to cover the later 12pm–8pm shift for holidays or sickness, typically with advance notice.You'll initially be expected to work from the Chiswick office while you're training and getting up to speed. • A book a month for personal developmentInterview processThe process starts with an informal 30–45 minute remote conversation to learn more about you and give you plenty of opportunity to understand the company, culture and role.The final stage is in person and includes conversations with members of the team, a short 10–15 minute practical Excel assessment and, if both sides are keen to continue, a conversation with the CEO.The Excel assessment consists of a handful of questions based on the type of work you'd be doing, increasing in difficulty to understand your current level. You won't need any commodities knowledge.If you're strong in Excel, comfortable with data, curious about how things work and naturally find yourself looking for better ways of doing things, we'd love to hear from you – even if you've never had the title Operations Analyst.
