Role Description The Owner role at Blue Heron Nonprofit Consulting is a full-time, on-site position based in Sharon, VT. The Owner will lead client engagements from initial consultation through project completion, including scoping work, developing proposals, and managing client relationships. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting organizational assessments, facilitating strategic planning sessions, designing and delivering training, and preparing clear written reports and recommendations. The Owner will oversee business operations such as budgeting, scheduling, marketing, and service development, ensuring that the practice remains sustainable and aligned with its mission. This role also involves networking within the nonprofit community, identifying new opportunities, and continuously refining consulting offerings based on client feedback and sector trends.QualificationsDemonstrated experience in nonprofit leadership, management, or consulting, with the ability to guide organizations through strategic and operational challenges.Strong skills in strategic planning, program evaluation, and organizational development, including designing and implementing practical improvement initiatives.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including report writing, presentation delivery, and facilitation of meetings and workshops.Proven capability in client relationship management, business development, and basic financial oversight for a small organization or practice.Comfort working on-site in Sharon, VT, with a collaborative, ethical, and inclusive approach to colleagues and clients.Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business, Social Sciences, or equivalent experience; advanced degree is an asset.Familiarity with fundraising practices, board governance, and community engagement within the nonprofit sector is strongly beneficial.Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt consulting services to diverse missions and organizational sizes.
