About the JobRole DescriptionAn Oyster Farmer is responsible for the cultivation, maintenance, harvesting, grading, and handling of oysters in accordance with aquaculture practices, food safety requirements, environmental standards, and company procedures. The role involves working in coastal, marine, or farm environments and requires careful monitoring of oyster health, water conditions, equipment, and production activities.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform daily oyster farming activities, including planting, growing, maintaining, grading, and harvesting oysters.Prepare and maintain oyster beds, racks, cages, bags, trays, baskets, lines, and other aquaculture systems.Monitor oyster growth, condition, mortality, and overall health throughout the production cycle.Inspect oysters regularly for disease, pests, predators, damage, abnormal growth, or other potential issues.Clean and maintain oyster cages, bags, trays, racks, ropes, floats, and other farming equipment.Monitor water quality, tides, temperature, salinity, and other environmental conditions affecting oyster production.Perform routine maintenance and adjustment of oyster farming structures and equipment.Sort and grade oysters according to size, quality, maturity, and company production standards.Harvest oysters safely and efficiently according to established schedules and production requirements.Handle, wash, clean, pack, and transport harvested oysters in accordance with food safety and quality procedures.Operate boats, small vessels, harvesting equipment, pumps, winches, and other approved equipment when required and properly trained.Load and unload oyster containers, equipment, supplies, and harvested products safely.Maintain accurate records of oyster production, stocking, growth, mortality, harvesting, grading, and inventory.Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of oyster seed, farming materials, packaging, tools, and equipment.Identify and report equipment failures, environmental concerns, unusual oyster mortality, disease risks, and other production issues.Follow appropriate biosecurity procedures to reduce the risk of disease and contamination.Maintain clean and hygienic work areas, equipment, storage facilities, boats, and processing areas.Follow applicable aquaculture, environmental protection, marine safety, occupational health and safety, and food safety regulations.Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safe working practices when working on land or in marine environments.Work safely around water, boats, machinery, sharp tools, ropes, cages, and changing weather and tidal conditions.Coordinate with farm managers, aquaculture technicians, boat crews, seafood processing staff, suppliers, inspectors, and other relevant personnel.Assist with oyster seed collection, nursery operations, transplanting, thinning, and other cultivation activities as required.Support improvements to oyster farming methods, equipment, production efficiency, and environmental practices.Report accidents, injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, and safety concerns promptly.Perform other oyster farming, aquaculture, harvesting, and maintenance duties as assigned by management.
