Part Time Professor, Equestrian Studies

As a part-time equestrian studies professor, you will prepare students for careers in the traditional equestrian field and in expanding opportunities at the intersection of horses, business, technology, creativity, and the broader equestrian industry. You will mentor students through classroom instruction, riding, and hands-on learning.To support the success of the equestrian department, you will:Teach undergraduate courses in riding, hunter/jumper training, horsemanship, equine care and management, and moreDevelop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that links practical equestrian skills to broader industry knowledge and professional opportunitiesProvide instruction and mentorship in horse health, safety, first aid, stable management, and best practices for horse care and welfareApply current knowledge of competition management, judging, show organization, rules, and standards in the hunter/jumper industryIntroduce students to professional practices and business concepts relevant to the equestrian industry, such as client relations, facility operations, marketing, entrepreneurship, and career developmentAs a part-time professor, you’ll:Incorporate current industry trends, technology, and emerging opportunities into instruction as appropriateFoster connections between students and the equestrian industry through professional experiences, guest speakers, demonstrations, mentorship, and other opportunitiesSupport the program’s interdisciplinary approach by helping students explore connections between equestrianism and other fieldsEvaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback to support both technical development and professional growthContribute to a collaborative faculty environment and participate in program activities, events, and initiatives as appropriateStrong candidates demonstrate the ability to:Strong practical experienceA passion for teaching, mentoring, and preparing students for a range of careers across the equestrian industryMaintain a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that reflects SCAD’s commitment to student success and industry preparationCandidates should ideally demonstrate:Excellent communication skills for working effectively with students from diverse backgroundsA strong knowledge of hunter/jumper training and ridingAn ability to effectively teach students across various levels of experienceIn-depth knowledge of equine health, horse care, safety, first aid, and stable managementKnowledge of equestrian competition management and judging, including familiarity with applicable rules, standards, and industry practicesMinimum qualifications: Terminal degree in equestrian studies or a relevant fieldAcademic and professional credentials to teach in equestrian studiesSignificant professional experience in the hunter/jumper equestrian industry, with demonstrated riding and instructional expertiseA combination of professional equestrian expertise, teaching ability, and an understanding of the equestrian industryFamiliarity with equestrian business practices and the professional landscape of the equestrian industryPreferred qualifications:Experience in competition management, judging, equestrian business, facility management, coaching, professional riding, equine education, technology, marketing, social media, entrepreneurship, or other emerging industry areasRequired application documents:Current résumé and/or CVCover letterPortfolio or its equivalentUnofficial academic transcriptsTravel required: Less than 10%Work hours: As noted in the Employment Agreement.ADA tag: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
