This role will solve real world electricity trading and optimisation problems across the domains of Habitat Energy energy trading, data science, and renewable energy management. Successful colleagues advance quickly in our culture.This vacancy is for a Trading Performance Analyst, will play a critical role in driving the success of our battery storage trading operations across wholesale markets (including day-ahead and intraday), Balancing Mechanism (BM), and ancillary service markets (frequency response and reserve services). You will provide comprehensive analytics to evaluate internal trading capabilities, assess market performance, and support the development and improvement of trading strategies. Additionally, you will ensure timely and accurate performance reporting for external clients, contributing to transparency and trust, as part of our market leading offering.Your responsibilities will include:Commercial Performance Analysis:Analyse Habitat trading activities and profitability across day-ahead, intraday, BM, and associated bidding in ancillary service marketsAssess the effectiveness of trading strategies and identify areas for improvement; collaborating with traders and data scientists to design and optimise strategiesProvide insight and reporting on market trends, trading outcomes, and competitor behaviourDevelop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and investigate performanceMarket Analysis:Explore large and diverse datasets programmatically to understand the drivers of market behaviourAnalyse value across markets and recognise opportunities to improve revenue from those marketsClient Performance Reporting:Prepare and deliver tailored performance reports for external clients, ensuring clarity and alignment with contractual requirementsAddress client queries and provide insights into market performance and revenue streamsData Management and Visualisation:Build and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and models for retrospective and real-time performance trackingCollaborate with Habitat's tech teams to integrate successful tools into the company's product suiteUtilise code and visualisation tools to present complex data in an accessible format for both internal and external stakeholdersCollaboration and Communication:Work closely with Habitat Trading & Operations teams, Business Development and Commercial Leadership to align analytical outputs with business goalsStay updated on market developments and emerging opportunities in battery storage optimisation and communicate relevant changes to the wider teamRequirements‘Must have' skills and experience:At least one year of experience in analytics or reporting roles within a similar industry, such as commodities or financeConfidence in writing Python code for data analysis work and using associated libraries (Pandas, Plotly or similar)Knowledge of core probability and statistics concepts and how to apply them to analyticsExperience working with SQL databases and APIs as data sourcesAbility to extract actionable insights from complex and noisy datasetsDetail-oriented with accurate reporting skillsStrong presentation and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiencesKnowledge of or demonstrable interest in learning about energy markets‘Nice to have' skills and experience:Existing understanding of GB electricity markets, including BM and ancillary servicesFamiliarity with battery storage technology and revenue driversExperience writing production-quality Python code (version control, testing, CI)Experience in forecasting, either fundamental or machine-learning based, especially probabilistic and time series forecastingFamiliarity with mathematical optimisation and related Python libraries such as cvxpyExperience in a client-facing roleTools that you will likely be using:Programming: Python, polarsGrafana, Streamlit, Marimo NotebooksClaude AIUltimately we are looking for someone who is a great fit for our company so we encourage you to apply even if you may not meet every requirement in this posting.
