Apply & track with Apply EdgeJob Title: Performance Capture Supervisor — AI & Digital Characters (1 Position)About the JobWe are seeking a technically minded and creatively driven Performance Capture Supervisor to lead the planning, execution and quality control of performance capture sessions for AI-driven and digital characters. The successful candidate will supervise the capture of body movement, facial performance, gestures, expressions and other performance data, ensuring that real human performances can be accurately transformed into convincing digital character experiences.This is a hands-on role working closely with performers, directors, character artists, animators, AI specialists, technical artists and production teams. The ideal candidate understands both the artistic language of performance and the technical requirements of motion and performance capture, and can translate creative direction into high-quality, production-ready capture data.ResponsibilitiesPlan and supervise performance capture sessions for digital characters, virtual humans and AI-driven characters.Coordinate capture requirements with directors, character designers, animators, technical artists and AI teams.Prepare performers and capture environments for body, facial, hand and full-performance capture sessions.Define capture setups, performance requirements, technical specifications and session workflows.Direct and supervise performers to achieve specific emotional, physical and narrative performances.Monitor live capture sessions and identify technical or performance issues in real time.Ensure accurate capture of movement, facial expressions, gestures, posture, timing and physical behavior.Work with capture technicians to calibrate cameras, sensors, suits, facial systems and other performance capture equipment.Review, organize and validate captured performance data before it enters animation, AI or character-production pipelines.Identify problems such as tracking errors, occlusion, jitter, missing data, synchronization issues and unnatural movement.Collaborate with animators and technical artists to clean, refine and prepare performance data for digital characters.Help translate captured human performances into reusable animation libraries, behavioral datasets or AI character-performance assets.Maintain consistent performance quality across multiple characters, performers, scenes and production sessions.Develop capture guidelines, performance references, documentation and production standards.Coordinate rehearsals, test captures and final capture sessions according to production schedules.Work closely with narrative and creative teams to ensure that captured performances support character personality, story, emotion and intended audience experience.Support the development of expressive digital characters capable of believable conversational, emotional and physical interaction.Evaluate emerging performance capture technologies, facial capture systems, AI-driven animation tools and real-time character technologies.Maintain organized metadata, naming conventions, version control and archival records for captured performance assets.Troubleshoot capture-related issues and coordinate with technical specialists to resolve problems efficiently.QualificationsMinimum BA/BS or equivalent professional experience in Animation, Film, Game Development, Motion Capture, Performance, Computer Graphics, Digital Media, or a related field.At least 3–5 years of professional experience in motion capture, performance capture, animation production, virtual production, games, film, VFX or digital character development.Strong practical understanding of motion capture and performance capture workflows.Experience with body, facial and/or hand capture systems and related production pipelines.Strong understanding of human movement, acting, body language, facial expression and physical performance.Ability to direct performers and communicate clearly with actors, artists and technical teams.Familiarity with animation and 3D production pipelines, including data cleanup, retargeting and character animation.Experience working with tools such as MotionBuilder, Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, Blender or comparable production software is an asset.Understanding of facial performance capture, facial animation and lip-sync workflows is highly desirable.Experience with real-time character systems, virtual humans or digital avatars is a strong advantage.Familiarity with AI-assisted animation, generative character technologies or machine-learning-based motion systems is an asset.Strong understanding of timing, weight, balance, gesture, expression and natural human movement.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in production environments.Excellent organizational and project coordination skills.Ability to work under production deadlines while maintaining high standards of performance quality.Strong communication and collaboration skills across creative and technical disciplines.Fluency in English;
