Job Title: Performance Capture Supervisor — AI Characters & Digital Humans (1 Position)About the JobWe are seeking an experienced and technically minded Performance Capture Supervisor to lead the planning, direction and execution of performance capture sessions for AI characters, digital humans and virtual characters. The successful candidate will oversee the capture of human performances and translate acting, movement, facial expression, gesture, voice and body language into high-quality digital performance data that can be used to develop expressive and believable virtual characters. This is a hands-on interdisciplinary role working closely with performers, directors, character artists, animators, technical artists, AI specialists, voice teams and real-time developers to ensure that captured performances accurately support character identity, narrative intent and interactive experiences.ResponsibilitiesLead the planning and execution of performance capture sessions for digital humans, AI characters and virtual characters.Develop capture plans based on character requirements, narrative objectives, performance references and technical specifications.Coordinate full-body, facial, hand, gesture and other performance capture requirements across production stages.Work with directors, writers and character teams to translate narrative and emotional objectives into practical performance direction.Prepare performers for capture sessions by providing character context, scene objectives, emotional states, movement requirements and performance references.Supervise performers during rehearsals and capture sessions, ensuring that performances remain natural, consistent and appropriate for the intended digital character.Coordinate capture of dialogue, body movement, facial expression, gaze, gestures, posture, timing and other non-verbal performance elements.Work closely with facial capture and voice teams to maintain synchronization between speech, facial performance and body movement.Oversee capture workflows, session preparation, calibration, takes, retakes, naming conventions, metadata and data organization.Review captured performance data for quality, completeness, consistency, timing and suitability for downstream animation and real-time systems.Identify technical or performance problems such as occlusion, tracking errors, noisy data, missing takes, inconsistent movement or weak emotional expression.Coordinate with technical artists and animators to ensure that captured data is properly processed, cleaned, retargeted and integrated into digital characters.Support the development of reusable performance libraries for character actions, emotional states, gestures, reactions, locomotion and interactive behaviors.Develop capture guidelines and performance standards for different character types, narrative situations and interaction scenarios.Work with AI and character teams to identify performance data requirements for AI-driven character behavior and multimodal expression.Coordinate capture sessions designed specifically for interactive and adaptive character behaviors, including reactions to user actions, conversational situations and unexpected events.Support the integration of captured performances into real-time engines, animation systems, digital human platforms and immersive environments.Collaborate with animation, rigging, facial systems, voice technology and AI teams to improve the connection between captured human performance and digital character behavior.Maintain detailed documentation of capture sessions, performer references, technical settings, takes, performance notes and data versions.Monitor production schedules, capture resources, equipment requirements and dependencies across multiple teams.Research emerging performance capture technologies, workflows and techniques for digital humans, virtual production, AI characters and real-time experiences.QualificationsMinimum BA/MA in Animation, Film, Theatre, Performance, Digital Media, Game Development, Computer Graphics, Motion Capture, Virtual Production or a related field. At least 3–5 years of professional experience in performance capture, motion capture, virtual production, animation, digital character production or a related field.Demonstrable experience supervising or coordinating performance capture sessions involving actors, performers or digital characters.Strong understanding of acting, physical performance, body mechanics, facial expression, gesture, timing and movement.Experience with full-body motion capture, facial capture, hand tracking, performance capture or related technologies.Understanding of the relationship between acting performance and digital character animation.Experience directing or coaching performers for capture, including communicating emotional, narrative and movement objectives clearly.Familiarity with motion capture systems, facial capture technologies, optical or inertial tracking, marker-based or markerless capture workflows.Practical experience with tools and pipelines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, MotionBuilder, Maya, Blender, MetaHuman or comparable character production technologies.Understanding of retargeting, rigging, animation cleanup, facial animation and real-time character pipelines.Familiarity with virtual production, digital humans, AI characters, interactive storytelling or immersive/XR experiences is an advantage.Understanding of voice, facial and body performance synchronization.Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities during live capture sessions.Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage performers, equipment, technical teams, schedules and multiple capture requirements.Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work across creative and technical disciplines.Ability to evaluate both technical capture quality and artistic performance quality.Comfortable working in iterative production environments involving rehearsals, testing, retakes and continuous refinement.Portfolio, showreel or links to 3 relevant performance capture, animation, virtual production or digital character projects required.Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset. What We OfferThe opportunity to lead performance capture for next-generation AI characters, digital humans and virtual characters.A highly interdisciplinary environment combining acting, performance, animation, AI, digital humans, storytelling and real-time technology. The opportunity to shape how human performance is translated into expressive and interactive digital characters. The chance to develop new performance capture approaches for AI-driven characters capable of responding, communicating and evolving through interaction.Exposure to emerging technologies including real-time rendering, digital humans, facial
