Title: Performance EngineerLocation: Hybrid (3 days/week in office when not traveling) - White Plains NY 10601 Travel: Approximately 35-40% travel to power generation facilities, vendors, and project sites Employment Type: Full-Time Department: Plant Operations Reports To: Director, Plant OperationsRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.Experience3-7 years of experience in one or more of the following: Power generation, Industrial facilities, Reliability engineering, Maintenance engineering, Performance engineering, Asset management, Engineering consulting or technical servicesStrong understanding of power plant operations and major plant systems.Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and methodologies.Experience supporting root cause failure analyses and corrective action development.Ability to analyze and interpret operational performance data.Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)Experience with combined cycle power plants or other thermal generation facilities.Experience performing thermal performance analysis of:Gas turbinesSteam turbinesHeat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs)Balance-of-plant systemsExperience with: Predictive maintenance programs, Condition monitoring systems, Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA)Familiarity with: GADS, OSI PI, EtaPRO, Similar industrial data acquisition and monitoring platformsExperience developing dashboards and analytics tools using: Power BI, Tableau, PythonProgramming experience in Python, Visual Basic, or other structured programming languages.Experience managing engineering projects, contractors, OEMs, or technical service providers.Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated Performance Engineer to support the performance, reliability, and optimization of a fleet of combined cycle power plants generating more than 2,500 MW of electricity within the PJM market. This role is responsible for leveraging performance engineering, reliability engineering, predictive analytics, and condition monitoring practices to improve asset availability, operational efficiency, and plant reliability.The ideal candidate will work closely with plant leadership, operations teams, maintenance personnel, OEMs, and third-party engineering firms to identify improvement opportunities, support root cause investigations, optimize maintenance strategies, and drive operational excellence across the fleet.This position is well-suited for an engineer with experience in power generation, industrial facilities, asset management, reliability engineering, or plant optimization who is passionate about using data and engineering expertise to maximize plant performance.Key ResponsibilitiesPerformance & Reliability MonitoringMonitor plant performance, reliability, availability, and operational risk metrics across the fleet.Track, analyze, and coordinate resolution of plant performance issues with significant operational or financial impact.Support root cause investigations and provide technical recommendations to prevent recurring failures.Develop and improve tools used for fleet performance monitoring and reporting.Track and report outage schedules, incidents, reliability events, and key performance indicators (KPIs).Coordinate with operations, maintenance, commercial, and energy management teams to drive performance improvements.Develop and maintain fleet performance metrics and reporting dashboards.Serve as the primary administrator for operational performance and reporting systems, including:GADSOSI PIEtaPROCoordinate data collection, validation, and submission activities with operations and maintenance providers.Support reporting requirements for regional transmission organizations and industry stakeholders.Analyze operational data using tools such as:Power BITableauPythonOther analytical platformsPlant Optimization & Condition MonitoringSupport plant configuration management and design basis compliance.Evaluate replacement and equivalency options for obsolete or aging equipment.Perform plant assessments, audits, observations, and operational reviews.Identify opportunities to improve:Heat ratePlant efficiencyCapacity factorStartup reliabilityOperational flexibilityDevelop digital tools and dashboards to support plant health monitoring and condition-based maintenance strategies.Support predictive maintenance initiatives using condition monitoring and performance analytics.Coordinate third-party engineering firms and OEMs for technical evaluations, engineering studies, and design deliverables.Support management of long-term maintenance and service agreements.Conduct site walkdowns and collaborate with plant personnel on project scope development and technical requirements.Project Management & Technical SupportAssist with development and management of project budgets, schedules, execution plans, and risk registers.Participate in capital project planning and execution activities.Support RFP development, bid evaluations, and contractor selection processes.Assist in contract administration, scope management, and change management activities.Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical requirements.
