About the roleCompounding Chemist is a specialist pharmacy focused on personalised and compounded medicines.We are looking for a Pharmacist Manager / QA Pharmacist to join our team at our Canvey Island facility.This is a varied role combining pharmacy management, Responsible Pharmacist duties and Quality Assurance, making it ideal for a pharmacist who wants to develop experience beyond traditional pharmacy practice and gain exposure to pharmaceutical quality, compounding and production.The successful candidate will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the pharmacy, support the compounding and dispensing teams, act as Responsible Pharmacist (RP) when required, and play an important role in maintaining and developing our quality systems.Previous pharmaceutical industry, QA or compounding experience is desirable but not essential, and full training will be provided.Key responsibilitiesPharmacy management and Responsible Pharmacist dutiesManaging the day-to-day operation of the pharmacyActing as the Responsible Pharmacist and ensuring the safe and effective running of the pharmacyEnsuring pharmacy activities are carried out in accordance with GPhC standards, legislation, company policies and SOPsProviding professional oversight of dispensing and pharmacy operationsSupporting and supervising pharmacists, dispensers, compounding staff and other members of the pharmacy teamEnsuring appropriate staffing, workflow and workload managementSupporting staff training, development and competency assessmentsEnsuring prescriptions are clinically and legally appropriate before supplySupporting the management of incidents, complaints, errors and near missesMaintaining appropriate pharmacy records and governance documentationHelping ensure the pharmacy remains inspection-ready and compliant with regulatory requirementsWorking closely with the directors and senior management on operational and quality improvementsQuality AssuranceCarrying out quality assurance and final release activities for compounded medicinesReviewing prescriptions, formulations and supporting documentationReviewing batch records and ensuring documentation is completed accuratelySupporting quality checks throughout the compounding and dispensing processEnsuring work is carried out in accordance with SOPs and quality proceduresInvestigating errors, deviations and quality issuesSupporting CAPA and continuous quality improvement activitiesSupporting the development, review and maintenance of SOPs and quality documentationAssisting with internal audits and regulatory complianceIdentifying opportunities to improve pharmacy and production processesWorking closely with pharmacists, dispensers and the compounding team to maintain high standards of quality and patient safetyRequirementsCurrent GPhC registration as a pharmacistAbility and willingness to act as Responsible PharmacistStrong leadership and organisational skillsStrong attention to detailGood documentation and record-keeping skillsConfidence supervising and supporting a pharmacy teamGood understanding of pharmacy governance, professional standards and patient safetyAn interest in pharmaceutical quality, compounding and medicines productionAbility to manage competing priorities in a busy pharmacy environmentGood communication and problem-solving skillsFull UK driving licence and access to your own car, as reliable travel to the Canvey Island site is requiredDesirable experienceExperience in any of the following would be beneficial, but is not essential:Pharmacy management or significant team leadership experienceResponsible Pharmacist dutiesTeam leadership or staff supervisionCompounding pharmacyPharmaceutical manufacturingQuality Assurance or Quality ControlSpecials or personalised medicinesSOP developmentAudits and quality systemsIncident investigation and CAPARegulatory inspections or pharmacy governanceThe role would suit an experienced community or hospital pharmacist looking for greater responsibility, as well as a pharmacist interested in developing a career within Quality Assurance, pharmaceutical production, manufacturing or compounding.What you'll gainThe role provides hands-on experience across both pharmacy leadership and pharmaceutical quality, including:Pharmacy managementResponsible Pharmacist responsibilitiesTeam leadership and developmentPharmaceutical Quality AssuranceCompounding and personalised medicinesQuality Management SystemsBatch documentation and product releasePharmaceutical production processesRegulatory complianceSOP developmentAudits, investigations and CAPAThis is an opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day pharmacy operation while developing valuable experience in QA, pharmaceutical manufacturing, personalised medicines and compounding.
