Prospective PhD candidates will join a dynamic academic environment with strong institutional support for research and professional development.Role Description The PhD Candidate in Physics, specializing in Computational Materials Science, will engage in full-time research focused on modeling and simulation of materials using computational and theoretical methods. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, designing and running simulations, analyzing data, and interpreting results to advance understanding of materials properties and behavior. The candidate will collaborate with supervisors and research groups, contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at conferences, and support grant proposals and project reports. Additional tasks include assisting with laboratory or departmental activities, mentoring junior students when needed, and participating in seminars and workshops. This is a full-time, on-site role based at SRM University-AP in Vijayawada.Qualifications Strong foundation in Physics, with a focus on Condensed Matter or Materials Science, and familiarity with quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and solid-state physics.Experience in Computational Materials Science methods, such as density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD), or Monte Carlo simulations.Proficiency in scientific programming and tools (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB, Fortran, or similar), and experience with relevant simulation packages or codes.Skills in data analysis, numerical methods, and visualization of computational results, including use of scientific libraries and plotting tools.Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, critically review scientific literature, and formulate research questions and hypotheses.Effective written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare research papers, technical reports, and presentations.Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline; candidates with strong B.Tech./B.Sc. backgrounds and research experience may also be considered.Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, interdisciplinary research environment and to manage time and project responsibilities effectively.Prior research experience, publications, or conference presentations in Physics or Computational Materials Science will be an advantage.
