JCMLRI offers an integrated environment where clinical care, education, and research intersect, providing graduate students with exposure to cutting-edge liver and digestive disease research. The institution encourages collaborative, multidisciplinary work and aims to translate research findings into meaningful improvements in population health.Role Description The PhD Graduate Student at JCMLRI will participate in full-time, on-site research activities based in Kolkata, focusing on liver diseases and related areas of human health. Daily responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and maintaining accurate laboratory records. The role involves reviewing scientific literature, contributing to research proposals, and preparing manuscripts, presentations, and reports for conferences and peer-reviewed journals. The student will collaborate with faculty, clinicians, and other researchers, attend seminars and lab meetings, and engage in academic discussions to refine research questions and methodologies. The position also includes adherence to ethical and safety standards in laboratory and clinical research, and potential involvement in public-health or translational projects aligned with JCMLRI’s mission.Qualifications Strong foundation in biomedical sciences (e.g., physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, public health, or related disciplines) relevant to liver and digestive disease research.Demonstrated research skills, including experimental design, data collection, statistical analysis, and scientific documentation.Proficiency in laboratory techniques appropriate to the chosen research area (such as cell culture, molecular assays, imaging, or clinical data handling), with attention to safety and quality control.Effective scientific communication skills, including the ability to write research articles, theses, and reports, and present findings to academic and clinical audiences.Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, manage time and projects independently, and adapt to a fast-paced research environment.Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field and eligibility for PhD enrollment as per institutional and regulatory requirements.Interest in liver diseases, gastroenterology, or public-health research; prior experience in these domains is an advantage.Commitment to ethical research practices, continuous learning, and professional development within an academic research setting.
