About Our ClientOur client is an innovative technology company based in Hamburg, developing advanced software platforms and simulation solutions for professional users operating in highly demanding and security-critical environments.As Platform Lead / System Architect, you will take ownership of the overall architecture of a sophisticated software platform comprising web applications, APIs, analytics capabilities, platform services, and integration components. The platform is designed to operate seamlessly across cloud, on-premise, offline, and restricted-network environments, requiring the highest standards of scalability, resilience, and security.This is a key architectural role offering significant influence over the company's long-term technology strategy. You will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Security teams while providing technical leadership to an experienced team of Platform and Backend Engineers.Your ProfileAt least 8 years of experience in backend, platform, or software engineeringProven experience in a senior technical role such as System Architect, Software Architect, Platform Architect, Tech Lead, or Principal EngineerStrong expertise in designing and implementing distributed systems and modern cloud-native architecturesHands-on experience with Kubernetes, container technologies, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as CodeSolid understanding of cloud, on-premise, and hybrid infrastructure environmentsExtensive experience designing scalable APIs, event-driven architectures, and multi-tenant platformsStrong knowledge of modern security concepts, including Identity & Access Management, OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, RBAC, ABAC, Zero Trust, Secrets Management, and secure platform designExperience building highly available, scalable, and observable systemsExperience working with on-premise, edge, offline, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted network environments is highly desirableDemonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and conduct architecture, code, and design reviewsStrategic mindset combined with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to software engineeringExcellent English communication skills; German is considered an advantageEU or NATO citizenship is required due to the nature of the customer environmentNice to HaveExperience within defence, public sector, aerospace, or other highly regulated industriesKnowledge of security standards such as BSI Baseline Protection or equivalent frameworksExperience with learning platforms, analytics solutions, or device management systemsExposure to Unity, gaming backends, multiplayer infrastructure, or XR technologiesExperience integrating software with hardware-based systemsFamiliarity with delivering software platforms across multiple deployment scenarios and operational environmentsYour ResponsibilitiesDefine, own, and continuously evolve the target architecture of a complex software platformDesign architecture strategies for cloud, on-premise, offline, and edge deploymentsDevelop synchronization, deployment, and update strategies for distributed environmentsDrive architectural decisions with a strong focus on scalability, maintainability, resilience, and securityDesign and standardize APIs, integration concepts, and platform servicesArchitect distributed systems using modern event-driven patterns, scalable data architectures, and multi-tenancy principlesShape the platform's security architecture, including authentication, authorization, Identity & Access Management, audit logging, and secrets managementProvide technical leadership and mentoring for Platform and Backend EngineersLead architecture, code, and design reviews while establishing engineering standards and best practicesDefine operational concepts covering observability, reliability, scalability, and Service Level Objectives (SLOs)Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Security, and other technical stakeholders to shape the long-term technical direction of the platformInterested?
