Location: London or ManchesterSalary: £33,494, subject to an expected c.3.5% pay increaseContract: Permanent, Full-timeWorking pattern: Hybrid – minimum two days per week in the officeWe are working exclusively with a national organisation representing the interests of transport users to recruit a Policy Officer to join its policy team.This is an excellent opportunity to work across a broad range of transport policy, helping to develop clear, evidence-based positions on issues affecting users across Britain.Working within a highly collaborative policy team, you will monitor developments across the transport sector, analyse complex policy issues and help develop the organisation's response.

You'll work closely with colleagues across research, insight and communications, as well as building relationships with external stakeholders.You don't need to be a transport policy specialist from day one, but you will need strong policy skills, an interest in the sector and the ability to quickly get to grips with new and complex subjects.The roleYou will work across the organisation and with key external stakeholders to develop clear and aligned policy positions across different modes of transport.Your responsibilities will include:Policy analysisMonitor, analyse and distil relevant policy and regulatory developments across the transport sectorWork with colleagues to understand what developments mean for transport users and support the development of appropriate responsesHelp produce policy documents, reports and other material for publicationDevelop draft policy positions on emerging national, regional and local transport issuesProvide advice on transport policy, drawing on the latest evidence, research and analysisDevelop a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the transport sector and their impact on usersStakeholder engagement and communicationsBuild and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholdersHelp communicate the organisation's position on complex policy issues clearly and effectivelyPrepare and deliver briefings and presentationsRepresent the organisation at relevant forums, panels and eventsWork with colleagues to identify opportunities for further research and policy developmentCollaborate with research, insight, communications and other teams to maximise the impact of policy workPlanning and project managementSupport the planning, commissioning and delivery of the organisation's policy programmeDeliver projects covering different transport modes and policy themesManage competing priorities while remaining responsive to external political, regulatory and industry developmentsWork as part of multidisciplinary teams to integrate transport policy into wider projectsContribute to projects and workstreams beyond your immediate team where appropriateAbout youWe are looking for someone with a strong grounding in policy who is comfortable analysing complex information, developing recommendations and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.You will ideally have:Experience and understanding of policy development, including producing analysis and recommendationsThe ability to quickly read, analyse and summarise large amounts of complex informationStrong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting and briefingExperience of stakeholder engagement and relationship managementThe ability to work collaboratively and coordinate activity across different teamsExperience managing and delivering multiple projects and prioritiesThe ability to think strategically, creatively and critically about how best to achieve an objectiveAn interest in transport and an understanding of some of the challenges facing the sectorAn inquisitive approach and willingness to challenge established thinking and explore new ideasA positive approach to change and organisational developmentA willingness to contribute across the organisation rather than working solely within your immediate remitPrevious experience specifically within transport would be useful, but is not essential.
