It uses evidence and insight to identify and challenge issues across the transport network, working with government, industry and other stakeholders to improve the experience of passengers and road users.This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong grounding in policy to work across the transport landscape. You’ll analyse emerging policy and regulatory developments, help shape evidence-based positions and work with colleagues and external stakeholders on issues affecting transport users across Britain.You don’t need to be a transport policy specialist from day one, but you will need strong policy skills, an interest in the sector and the ability to quickly get to grips with new and complex subjects.The roleWorking closely with colleagues across Transport Focus, you will help develop clear and informed policy positions across different modes of transport.Policy analysisMonitor, analyse and distil relevant policy and regulatory developments across the transport sectorWork with colleagues to understand emerging issues and develop appropriate policy responsesHelp produce Transport Focus policy documents and reports for publicationDevelop draft policy positions on national, regional and local transport issuesProvide policy advice informed by the latest evidence, research and analysisBuild a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing transport and their impact on usersStakeholder engagement and communicationsBuild and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholdersHelp develop clear messaging around complex policy issuesPrepare and deliver briefings and presentationsRepresent Transport Focus at relevant forums, panels and eventsWork with colleagues to identify opportunities for further research and policy developmentCollaborate with teams across the organisation to maximise the impact of Transport Focus’s policy workPlanning and project managementSupport the planning, commissioning and delivery of Transport Focus’s policy programmeDeliver projects across different transport modes and themesManage competing priorities while responding to external policy and industry developmentsWork collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate transport policy into wider projectsContribute to projects and workstreams beyond your immediate team where appropriateAbout youWe’re looking for someone who is comfortable analysing complex information, developing recommendations and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.You’ll bring:Experience and understanding of policy development, including producing complex analysis and recommendationsThe ability to quickly read, analyse and summarise large amounts of informationStrong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting and briefingExperience of stakeholder engagement and relationship managementStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teamsExperience delivering multiple projects and managing competing prioritiesThe ability to think strategically, creatively and criticallyAn interest in transport and an appreciation of the challenges facing the sectorAn inquisitive approach, with a willingness to challenge established thinking and explore new ideasA positive approach to change and a willingness to contribute beyond your immediate remitSalary and benefits£33,494, subject to an expected c.3.5% pay increasePermanent, full-time positionHybrid working, with a minimum of two days per week in either the London or Manchester office30 days’ annual leave plus bank holidaysEmployee Assistance ProgrammeAccess to the Civil Service Pension Scheme, including Alpha, with a current employer contribution of 28.9%About Transport FocusTransport Focus is the voice of Britain’s transport users.
