Postdoctoral Researcher (AI for Medical Imaging, LLMs, Robotics in Medical AI)

Postdoctoral Fellow - AI for Medical Imaging, Robotics & Clinical LLMsWe're seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our research group in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Jodhpur, under the AICTE Post-Doctoral Fellowship scheme. The role is for a self-driven researcher who wants to build physics-grounded, verifiable AI systems for real clinical problems - spanning medical imaging reconstruction, medical robotics, or large language models for clinical applications. Success in this role looks like producing high-quality, publishable research (at least one Scopus-indexed paper or patent per year), contributing to ongoing international collaborations, and growing into an independent research leader by the end of the fellowship. This position sits at the center of our lab's broader research program connecting medical imaging AI, robotics, and clinical language technologies, and offers exposure to collaborators at GE HealthCare, Harvard Medical School-MGH, and Amsterdam UMC.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and evaluate deep learning methods for one of: medical image reconstruction/analysis (photoacoustic tomography, ultrasound, MRI, histopathology), AI-driven perception and control for medical robotics, or LLMs for clinical reasoning and documentationDevelop and validate physics-constrained or verifiable AI frameworks appropriate to the chosen research trackAuthor and submit research papers to peer-reviewed, Scopus-indexed journals and conferences at a rate of at least one per yearCollaborate with international partners (GE HealthCare, Harvard Medical School–MGH, Amsterdam UMC) on joint research initiativesMentor junior lab members (PhD, Masters, and undergraduate students) on relevant projectsPrepare and submit progress reports (half-yearly at institute level, annually to AICTE) documenting research milestonesContribute to grant proposal writing and research ideation for future funding opportunitiesPresent research findings at internal reviews, workshops, and conferencesQualificationsPhD (awarded or provisional) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a closely related interdisciplinary fieldStrong background in deep learning, with demonstrated experience in medical imaging, robotics, or natural language processingTrack record of peer-reviewed publications in the candidate's PhD areaProficiency in Python and standard deep learning frameworks (PyTorch preferred)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly for both technical and clinical audiencesBelow 35 years of age at the time of application (relaxations apply for SC/ST/OBC/Women/PWD candidates per AICTE norms)Ability to commit full-time to the fellowship, with no concurrent employment or other fellowship during the tenureMust not have previously availed the AICTE Post-Doctoral FellowshipWhat we offer₹65,000/month fellowship + ₹50,000/year contingency grant1+1 year tenure (up to 2 years total, subject to satisfactory progress)Access to lab infrastructure, collaborative research networks, and mentorship toward an independent research career
