Postdoctoral Research Associate – Multiphase Flow, Droplet Dynamics and IcingComputational Multiphase Transport Laboratory (CMTL)Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester, MA, USAThe Computational Multiphase Transport Laboratory (CMTL) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in computational multiphase flow. The successful candidate will work on high-fidelity computational modeling of droplet dynamics, droplet–droplet interactions, and droplet interactions with solid surfaces, with particular emphasis on applications relevant to aircraft and wind-turbine icing. Research topics may include droplet impact, deformation, coalescence, breakup, splashing, heat transfer, phase change/freezing, and the interaction of multiple droplets with cold surfaces. The project will involve development and application of advanced numerical methods for interfacial multiphase flows, analysis of the governing physical mechanisms, and comparison with available experimental data.QualificationsApplicants should have:A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a closely related field.A strong background in computational fluid dynamics and multiphase/interfacial flows.Experience with numerical modeling of droplets, free-surface flows, phase change, heat transfer, or related transport phenomena.Strong programming and scientific computing skills.A record of peer-reviewed publications and the ability to conduct independent research and communicate results effectively.Experience with OpenFOAM and/or Basilisk is highly desirable. Experience with interface-capturing methods such as VOF, adaptive mesh refinement, high-performance computing, or simulations involving droplet impact and solidification/freezing would also be advantageous. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to contribute to model development, conduct large-scale numerical simulations, collaborate with experimental and computational researchers, publish in leading journals, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.Interested candidates should send the following materials to Prof. Aswin Gnanaskandan:Curriculum vitaeBrief statement describing research experience and interestsNames and contact information of 2–3 referencesPlease include “Postdoctoral Position – Droplet Dynamics and Icing” in the subject line.Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.More information about the Computational Multiphase Transport Laboratory can be found at:https://wp.wpi.edu/cmtl/
