The campus in the Greater Umeå Metropolitan Area offers a vibrant academic community and proximity to diverse forest landscapes ideal for ecological and forestry research.Role Description The Postdoctoral Researcher in Fungal Communities and Continuous Cover Forestry will conduct independent and collaborative research on fungal ecology in forest ecosystems managed under continuous cover forestry. Day-to-day tasks include designing and implementing field experiments, collecting and processing samples, analyzing fungal community data (e.g., molecular and ecological analyses), and interpreting results in relation to forest management practices and ecosystem functions. The researcher will prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, present findings at conferences and seminars, and contribute to project reporting and collaboration with national and international partners. The role also involves mentoring students, participating in research group meetings, and coordinating with forest managers and other stakeholders when relevant. This is a full-time on-site role located in the Greater Umeå Metropolitan Area.Qualifications Strong background in fungal ecology, forest ecology, or related environmental sciences, preferably with experience in continuous cover forestry or forest management.Proficiency in experimental design, fieldwork in forest ecosystems, and sample collection and handling for ecological or microbiological studies.Experience with molecular methods (e.g., DNA extraction, sequencing, metabarcoding) and analysis of fungal community data is highly beneficial.Solid skills in statistical analysis and data handling using relevant software or programming languages (e.g., R, Python, or similar tools).Demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and to present research in scientific and stakeholder forums.Excellent written and spoken English; additional language skills (e.g., Swedish) are an advantage but not required.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.PhD in ecology, biology, forestry, environmental science, or a closely related field, completed or near completion at the time of appointment.Interest in applied forest management, sustainability, and integrating scientific knowledge into practice is considered a strong merit.
