Power BI Developer

Onni Group is seeking a Power BI Developer who pairs strong technical skills with real business insight. This role is responsible for partnering with Finance, Accounting, and Operations to turn complex data into accurate, actionable insights that drive better business decisions.This is more than building reports. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in Power BI development, SQL optimization, and financial/operational reporting, along with the ability to dig into business questions, challenge unclear requirements, investigate performance drivers, and design reporting solutions that lead to measurable outcomes. You'll build deep knowledge of business processes, source systems, and reporting dependencies while mentoring stakeholders on data-driven decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Analysis & Strategic InsightPartner with Finance, Accounting, and Operations to understand objectives, reporting needs, and decision-making priorities.Translate business questions into clear metrics, data requirements, analytical models, and reporting solutions.Investigate performance issues—shifts in profitability, revenue, cost, margin, forecast, or operational efficiency.Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions and help stakeholders separate immediate requests from underlying needs.Build deep knowledge of business processes, source systems, calculations, and reporting dependencies.Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, data quality, and decision-making, and adapt as priorities evolve.Power BI Development & ReportingDesign, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and datasets.Build audience-specific reporting for Finance, Accounting, and Operations stakeholders.Develop reusable, accurate DAX measures using appropriate filter, row, and evaluation context.Choose the right approach for each need—measures, calculated columns, calculated tables, or upstream transformations.Apply dimensional modelling techniques, including star schemas and appropriate snowflake structures.Configure and maintain Power BI capabilities: Row-Level Security, Incremental Refresh, Import and DirectQuery modes, drill-through navigation, Service workspaces, apps, subscriptions, scheduled refreshes, and deployment pipelines.Optimize report, model, query, and refresh performance, and set consistent standards for usability, navigation, visual design, and metric definitions.Data Engineering & SQLDesign scalable fact and dimension models for financial and operational analysis.Write and optimize SQL—joins, aggregations, subqueries, common table expressions, and window functions.Integrate and reconcile data across multiple business systems and source platforms.Validate source-to-report data and ensure calculations match approved business definitions.Diagnose discrepancies across source systems, SQL transformations, semantic models, and report visuals.Document data models, transformation logic, calculations, assumptions, and lineage.Collaborate with data engineering and application teams to improve data availability, quality, and reliability.Communication & Stakeholder EngagementPresent technical and analytical findings in clear business language for both technical and non-technical audiences.Explain data definitions, calculations, assumptions, and limitations in practical business terms.Communicate insights and recommendations—not simply results.Manage competing stakeholder priorities and changing requirements professionally.Train users on dashboards, self-service analytics, and how to interpret metrics.Build credibility through accurate analysis, thoughtful questioning, and dependable delivery.QualificationsRequired5+ years of experience building business intelligence and analytics solutions, including hands-on Power BI development.Advanced Power BI and dimensional modelling skills, including star-schema design.Strong DAX expertise: measures, calculated columns, filter and row context, context transition, iterators (e.g., SUMX), time intelligence, and performance optimization.Strong SQL proficiency: joins, aggregations, common table expressions, window functions, data validation and reconciliation, and query troubleshooting.Proven experience working with large datasets and multiple source systems.Knowledge of Import, DirectQuery, refresh strategies, and Power BI Service administration.Experience gathering requirements from business and technical stakeholders.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams.Exceptional attention to detail, particularly with financial or management reporting.PreferredFinancial and operational reporting experience: budget vs. actual, forecasting, profitability and margin analysis, revenue and cost reporting, work-in-progress, job costing, vendor analysis, change-order reporting, and operational performance.Experience supporting Finance, Accounting, Operations, or project-based business environments.SSRS report development.Databricks, lakehouse platforms, or modern cloud data architectures.Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or related Microsoft data platforms.AI-assisted analytics tools—Microsoft Copilot, GPT-based solutions, or natural-language business intelligence.Experience introducing reporting governance, standardized KPIs, certified datasets, or self-service BI practices.Exposure to multiple business domains and cross-functional reporting
