Apply & track with Apply EdgePosition OverviewWe are looking for a Senior Power BI Developer with strong expertise in Power BI semantic modeling, complex DAX, performance optimization, and modern Microsoft Fabric data architectures. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing complex Power BI solutions, with a strong focus on report performance, semantic model design, and integration with backend Lakehouse architectures. This role requires someone who can diagnose and resolve performance issues in existing Power BI reports, redesign semantic models when necessary, and collaborate closely with Data Engineering teams to optimize backend Gold Lakehouse models. The position will involve working with a U.S.-based client, so fluent English is mandatory.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain complex Power BI reports and dashboards using advanced DAX and data modeling techniques.Build and optimize Power BI Semantic Models using Import, DirectQuery, and Direct Lake modes.Develop complex DAX measures, calculations, and business logic while ensuring maintainability and performance.Analyze and troubleshoot slow-running Power BI reports and identify root causes across the semantic model, DAX, queries, and backend data layer.Perform Power BI performance tuning and optimization, including model design, DAX optimization, query performance, and data reduction strategies.Redesign semantic models and Power BI architectures to improve report responsiveness, scalability, and overall user experience.Work closely with Data Engineering teams to understand and optimize backend Lakehouse models, particularly Gold-layer models.Identify opportunities to improve the underlying Gold Lakehouse structures when backend data models are contributing to Power BI performance issues.Support migration initiatives from legacy SSRS reporting solutions to Power BI.Support migration from Tableau to Power BI, including translating existing reporting requirements and business logic into Power BI solutions.Ensure Power BI solutions follow best practices for semantic modeling, performance, scalability, and governance.Collaborate with business stakeholders, Data Engineers, and other technical teams to translate requirements into robust BI solutions.Required Skills and ExperienceStrong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI.Advanced knowledge of DAX, including complex measures and performance-conscious DAX development.Strong understanding of Power BI Semantic Models.Experience working with Import, DirectQuery, and/or Direct Lake storage modes.Proven experience with Power BI performance tuning and optimization.Strong understanding of dimensional/data modeling concepts.Experience analyzing and optimizing slow-performing Power BI reports.Good understanding of Microsoft Fabric and Fabric data modeling concepts.Strong understanding of Lakehouse architectures, particularly Gold-layer data models.Ability to assess the relationship between backend data models, semantic models, DAX, and report performance.Experience collaborating with Data Engineering teams to redesign and optimize backend data structures.Experience migrating reporting solutions from SSRS to Power BI.Experience migrating or converting Tableau reports to Power BI.Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.Fluent in English.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse and Direct Lake architectures.Experience optimizing enterprise-scale Power BI semantic models.Familiarity with Power BI performance analysis and diagnostic tools.Experience designing scalable BI solutions across large and complex datasets.Experience working in modern data platform environments involving Lakehouse, semantic models, and enterprise reporting.Key Success CriteriaThe successful candidate will be able to take ownership of complex Power BI solutions end-to-end, diagnose performance problems beyond the report layer, and determine whether optimization requires changes to DAX, the semantic model, or the underlying Gold Lakehouse. They should be comfortable partnering with Data Engineering teams to drive those changes and deliver performant, scalable Power BI solutions.
