Principal Engineer – Java, Microservices & PaymentsExperience: 8–12+ YearsRole: Principal Engineer – Backend EngineeringDomain: US Banking & PaymentsJob SummaryWe are looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer with strong expertise in Java, microservices architecture, distributed systems, and US payment systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing scalable backend platforms for payment processing, including Wire, ACH, and Real-Time Payments (RTP). The candidate should demonstrate strong system design leadership, advanced API integration skills, and expertise in building reliable, secure, high-performance applications.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.Architect and implement payment processing solutions supporting Wire transfers, ACH, and Real-Time Payments (RTP).Lead system design discussions and drive architecture decisions for complex, distributed applications.Design advanced REST APIs and microservices, ensuring scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.Develop thread-safe, concurrent, and high-throughput backend processing systems.Build event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.Integrate enterprise APIs using IBM API Connect (APIC) or equivalent API management platforms.Containerize and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes.Collaborate with frontend teams using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.Apply spec-driven development practices, translating API specifications and technical designs into implementation.Ensure payment processing systems meet requirements for transaction integrity, idempotency, fault tolerance, reconciliation, and auditability.Troubleshoot production issues, conduct performance tuning, and establish engineering best practices.Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive code quality through design reviews and code reviews.Mandatory Technical SkillsJava & Backend Engineering: Strong hands-on Java development, Spring Boot, and enterprise backend processing.US Payment Systems: Practical experience with Wire transfers, ACH, and RTP payment processing.API & Microservices Architecture: Advanced REST API design, API integration, and microservices development.Distributed Systems: Strong understanding of concurrency, multithreading, thread safety, and high-throughput processing.System Design: Ability to lead architecture discussions and design scalable, resilient, highly available systems.Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging technologies.API Management: Experience with IBM API Connect (APIC) or similar enterprise API management solutions.Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.Frontend Exposure: Familiarity with React, Angular, or Vue.js.
