The role: Software ArchitectLocation: Salt Lake City, Utah (on-site)About the RoleKingbee is seeking a Principal Software Architect to lead the modernization of our core reservation platform and define the future architecture that will support the company's continued growth. This role will be responsible for understanding our existing technology ecosystem, reverse engineering complex business logic, and designing a scalable next-generation reservation platform.This role will serve as the technical leader responsible for analyzing our current architecture, identifying opportunities for simplification, defining the future-state platform architecture, and creating a roadmap to transition from our existing reservation system to a modern, scalable solution.The Principal Software Architect will work closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Executive Leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions and establish the foundation for Kingbee's next generation of technology.Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate opportunities for microservice consolidation and improved system design.Analyze and document Kingbee’s existing reservation ecosystem, including backend services, frontend applications, mobile applications, integrations, APIs, and microservice dependencies.Reverse engineer complex business logic and workflows embedded within the current platform to identify opportunities for simplification and improvement.Design the future-state architecture for a modern reservation platform that is scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with Kingbee’s long-term business goals.Define architectural standards, service boundaries, APIs, data strategies, and technical patterns across backend, frontend, mobile, and infrastructure.Develop a phased migration roadmap to transition from the existing platform to the new architecture while minimizing business disruption.Lead technical decisions, architecture reviews, and design discussions while partnering with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Executive Leadership.Mentor engineering teams and promote best practices around system design, documentation, scalability, and software development excellence.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and architecting complex, distributed software systems.3+ years of technical leadership experience, mentoring engineering teams and driving architectural decisions.Strong hands-on experience with Golang, PostgreSQL, RESTful APIs, and microservice architectures.Proven experience modernizing legacy platforms, reverse engineering existing systems, and leading large-scale platform transformations.Experience designing enterprise software platforms from concept through implementation, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, databases, integrations, DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).Experience creating technical roadmaps and leading phased migrations with minimal business disruption.Experience rebuilding or modernizing core business systems such as reservation, payments, billing, or operational platforms.Experience working through acquisitions or integrating inherited technology platforms is highly preferred.Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.Experience in a startup or high-growth technology environment is strongly preferred.What’s in it for you:401(k)Health, dental & vision insurancePaid time offOpportunities for professional growthBe part of a fast-paced, dynamic, and multicultural environmentThis is an opportunity to redesign the technology foundation of a growing business following a major acquisition.
