Product Safety Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Product Safety Engineer to join a growing testing and compliance laboratory in San Diego.This is a hands-on role for an experienced product safety professional who can step in and contribute from day one. You will work with customers across a range of products, supporting safety evaluation and compliance testing against key international standards.We are looking for someone who is senior and technically confident, with the ability to operate independently and take ownership of product safety projects.The RoleYou will be responsible for hands-on product safety evaluation and compliance testing, working across a range of electrical and electronic products.The core areas will include:IT / AV / ICT equipmentMeasurement, control and laboratory equipmentMedical electrical equipmentProduct safety evaluation and testingTechnical documentation and test reportsIdentifying and assessing product safety risksReviewing designs and construction against applicable standardsWorking directly with customers to resolve compliance issuesSupporting certification and regulatory requirementsYou will primarily work with the following standards:IEC / UL 62368-1 – Audio/video, information and communication technology equipmentIEC / UL 61010-1 – Measurement, control and laboratory equipmentIEC / UL 60601-1 – Medical electrical equipmentExperience with related particular requirements within the 62368, 61010 and 60601 families would also be highly valuable.About YouWe are looking for someone with:Several years of hands-on experience in product safety testing, evaluation or certificationStrong knowledge of electrical product safety principlesPractical experience working with one or more of IEC 62368-1, IEC 61010-1 and IEC 60601-1Experience interpreting standards and applying their requirements to real productsExperience with safety testing, evaluation and technical reportingStrong analytical and troubleshooting skillsThe ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finishStrong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with customersExperience within a TIC, testing laboratory, certification body or similar compliance environment would be highly advantageous.We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked across multiple product categories rather than being limited to one specific type of equipment.The OpportunityThis is an opportunity to join an established testing and compliance environment and take ownership of a broad product safety remit.You will have exposure to different technologies and industries, working across IT/AV, measurement and laboratory equipment, and medical devices.The role offers the opportunity to deepen your technical expertise across multiple safety standards while working closely with customers on complex compliance requirements.For the right person, there is also scope to grow their responsibilities as the product safety capability continues to develop.Why Join?Join an established testing and compliance organisationWork across IT/AV, measurement and medical productsHands-on technical product safety roleWork with major international safety standardsExposure to IEC 62368-1, IEC 61010-1 and IEC 60601-1Work directly with customers on complex compliance requirementsOpportunity to broaden your technical expertise across multiple product areasStrong scope for professional and technical developmentSan Diego-based engineering environmentIf you're an experienced Product Safety Engineer looking for a hands-on role where you can apply your expertise across a broad range of products and standards, we'd like to hear from you.
