Company Description Golden Opportunity (GO) is a nonprofit organization providing free, one-on-one tutoring and mentorship to economically disadvantaged students in grades 2–8 who are performing below grade level in reading and math across the Ithaca City School District.Committed to educational equity, GO helps close achievement gaps by ensuring students have access to high-quality academic support, caring mentors, and opportunities to succeed. Through individualized instruction, students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning.Working in partnership with schools, families, and the community, GO creates supportive, inclusive learning environments that empower every student to reach their full potential.Role Description GO Tutors are current and retired educators who provide individualized academic support and mentorship to students throughout the school year. Working in partnership with teachers, families, and the GO team, tutors deliver personalized instruction aligned with classroom learning while helping students build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and achieve their academic goals.GO Tutors meet with students twice each week. Elementary tutoring takes place from 2:00–3:00 p.m., and middle school tutoring is held from 3:30–4:30 p.m. Tutors are compensated $30 per hour for tutoring sessions and required GO meetings.Through ongoing assessment, progress monitoring, and responsive teaching strategies, GO Tutors adapt instruction to meet each student's unique needs. More than academic instructors, GO Tutors are trusted mentors who foster resilience, motivation, and a love of learning while empowering students to succeed in school and beyond.QualificationsCurrent or retired educator with classroom teaching, tutoring, or other youth education experience.Strong instructional skills in reading, writing, and/or mathematics, with the ability to provide individualized academic support.Ability to assess student needs, set learning goals, monitor progress, and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning styles.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, teachers, and GO staff.Commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to maintain consistent attendance, documentation, and communication.Passion for educational equity and a commitment to supporting students from low-income and historically marginalized communities.Ability to collaborate as part of a professional learning community and actively participate in required GO meetings and trainings.Ability to work on-site in the Ithaca City School District during after-school tutoring hours.
