With you as part of our team, we can continue to grow as a company by living out our mission, vision, and values.Overview:The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial administration of construction and facility maintenance projects from setup through closeout, ensuring accurate job costing, billing, contract documentation, cost tracking, and project financial reporting. This role works closely with project managers, operations teams, subcontractors, vendors, and the accounting department to monitor project budgets, process invoices and pay applications, track change orders, reconcile project costs, and provide timely financial information to support project performance and profitability. The Project Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate project records, identifying cost variances, supporting cash flow management, and ensuring compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and construction accounting practices.Job Duties:Maintain accurate project accounting records, including project costs, customer billings, vendor invoices, change orders, and supporting documentationPartner with project managers and operations teams to review project financial performance, budgets, forecasts, committed costs, and margin trendsPrepare and distribute timely project financial reporting, including cost-to-complete analysis, variance explanations, and profitability summariesSupport monthly close activities by preparing project-related journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and work-in-process or deferred revenue schedules as neededReview project-related accounts payable coding and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate project assignmentAssist with customer invoicing, billing support, collections follow-up, and resolution of project billing questions in coordination with internal stakeholdersAnalyze project cost variances and communicate issues, risks, or required corrections to the Corporate Accounting Manager and project teamsSupport cash application, accounts receivable review, and reconciliation of project-related balances as assignedCompile project accounting schedules and documentation for internal reporting, annual audit requests, and year-end processesAssist with process improvements that strengthen project accounting controls, reporting accuracy, and cross-functional communicationWork on projects assigned by the Corporate Accounting Manager or Corporate ControllerOther duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesAbility to handle confidential and business sensitive data while maintaining a high sense of professionalism and integrityStrong understanding of accounting principles, project cost tracking, reconciliations, and financial reportingAbility to analyze project financial results, investigate variances, and recommend timely correctionsMust possess strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, timely workAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting, project management, operations, and shared services teamsStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlinesPossess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate accounting information clearly to internal stakeholdersAbility to remain flexible, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain a positive, solutions-oriented approachQualifications:Education/ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting or FinanceTwo or more years of accounting experience preferred; project accounting, job costing, billing, or construction/service industry experience a plusLanguage AbilityEffectively communicates all relevant accounting/project information to superiorsResolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashionUnderstands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfullyUnderstands how to receive and/or deliver constructive criticismAbility to speak effectively in groups of customers or employees of an organizationReasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formAbility to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsComputer SkillsRequires strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
