Project Accountant

Position OverviewA growing commercial construction organization is seeking a highly organized and detail-focused Project Accountant to support the financial administration of construction projects throughout the entire project lifecycle—from planning and procurement through project completion. This role partners closely with project teams, field operations, and finance personnel to ensure accurate budgeting, billing, reporting, and cost management across multiple active projects.The successful candidate is comfortable working in a dynamic environment, possesses strong communication skills, and is committed to maintaining accurate financial records while supporting project success.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee financial tracking and reporting for multiple construction projects simultaneously.Review, process, and monitor subcontractor invoices, vendor payments, and purchase commitments.Prepare customer invoices, progress billings, payment applications, lien documentation, and related support materials.Track project budgets, change orders, commitments, and actual costs to ensure financial accuracy.Assist project leadership with forecasting, cost analysis, and monthly project reporting.Reconcile project-related accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed.Collaborate with accounting, operations, and project teams to maintain complete and current project records.Support monthly and annual accounting close activities.Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, insurance certificates, and subcontract documentation.Respond to billing, payment, and financial inquiries from clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.Recommend and support process improvements that enhance financial controls and operational efficiency.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience; construction industry experience is advantageous.Familiarity with project accounting principles, including job costing, retainage, change management, and progress billing.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems.Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple projects concurrently.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments.Preferred ExperienceExperience with construction-focused accounting or project management software platforms.Understanding of commercial construction operations and project delivery methods.Ability to analyze financial information and produce meaningful reports.Strong problem-solving, planning, and time-management capabilities.Why Join Us?Join a collaborative team that values professionalism, accountability, and long-term success.
