Position OverviewOur client is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Project Accountant to support the financial management of construction projects from inception through completion. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with job costing, project billing, prevailing wage payroll, WIP reporting, and month-end close activities. This role will partner closely with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and project profitability.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and monitor project financials, including budgets, costs, commitments, and profitability.Perform detailed job cost accounting and analysis for multiple construction projects.Process weekly payroll, including prevailing wage payroll and certified payroll reporting.Prepare and review AIA billings, progress billings, change orders, and lien waivers.Manage accounts receivable collections related to project billings.Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and assist with revenue recognition.Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.Reconcile project-related accounts and investigate variances.Partner with project managers to monitor project performance, forecast costs, and identify potential issues.Ensure compliance with contract requirements, labor regulations, and company policies.Assist with audits, financial reporting, and year-end activities.Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.3+ years of construction accounting or project accounting experience.Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and construction financial reporting.Experience processing prevailing wage and certified payroll.Knowledge of AIA billing, contract billing, retainage, and WIP reporting.Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement support.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Familiarity with construction ERP systems such as Sage 300, Sage Intacct Construction, CMiC, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar platforms.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting commercial, heavy civil, or general contracting environments.Understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and revenue recognition.Proven track record of improving accounting processes and workflows.Prior experience working directly with project managers and operations teams.This is an excellent opportunity for a construction accounting professional seeking a hands-on role with visibility across project operations, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
