This setting offers exposure to construction, design, and facilities management across diverse commercial properties.Role Description The Project Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in the New York City Metropolitan Area. This position is responsible for managing project-related financial activities, including tracking budgets, monitoring costs, and preparing regular financial reports for active projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing contracts, setting up project accounts, processing invoices, managing billing schedules, and reconciling project expenses against estimates. The Project Accountant partners closely with project managers, operations staff, and senior leadership to support project forecasting, analyze variances, and ensure accurate revenue recognition. The role also involves maintaining organized financial records, assisting with audits, and recommending process improvements to strengthen internal controls and project profitability.Qualifications Candidates should possess strong project accounting and financial management skills, including budgeting, cost tracking, and variance analysis.Candidates should possess skills in accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, billing coordination, and reconciliation of project-related transactions.Candidates should possess proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets (e.g., ERP systems, Excel), along with accurate data entry and reporting skills.Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and support decision-making.Candidates should possess effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders.Relevant skills such as time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are essential.A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred; prior experience in construction or commercial contracting is a plus.Knowledge of project-based accounting principles, revenue recognition, and basic contract terms (e.g., change orders, retainage) is beneficial.
