Project Accountant – Construction

Over the past decade, Fedo has achieved consistent growth and built a strong reputation among local and international stakeholders.With a diverse portfolio of projects, Fedo offers professionals the opportunity to contribute to developments that support national infrastructure, economic growth, and the visitor economy of the Maldives.Role Description Fedo is seeking a competent and detail-oriented Project Accountant – Construction to manage the financial and accounting requirements of its construction portfolio.The Project Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate project financial records, monitoring costs and budgets, analysing work in progress, processing progress claims and subcontractor payments, and reporting on project profitability. The role will work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, procurement personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and the Finance team to strengthen project-level financial control and decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate project accounts, cost codes, budgets, commitments, and financial records within the ERP system.Monitor actual project expenditure against approved budgets and identify cost overruns, risks, and unusual variances.Prepare project cost-control reports, work-in-progress analyses, and budget-versus-actual reports.Monitor project profitability, margins, estimated costs to complete, and forecast final project outcomes.Prepare and review progress claims, subcontractor valuations, subcontractor payables, and payment schedules.Maintain accurate records of contract retentions, advances, variations, claims, and certified payments.Verify supplier and subcontractor invoices against contracts, purchase orders, delivery records, and approved work certifications.Reconcile project accounts, supplier balances, subcontractor accounts, and related general ledger balances.Support project cash-flow forecasting and funding requirements for ongoing and upcoming projects.Provide timely financial information and cost analysis to project managers and senior management.Assist with monthly and year-end closing processes relating to construction projects.Ensure compliance with company policies, delegated authorities, accounting procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.Support internal and external audits by maintaining complete and traceable project documentation.Contribute to improving project-accounting controls, ERP workflows, reporting standards, and financial processes.ExperienceTwo to four years of dedicated project-accounting experience within the construction, civil engineering, or real estate sectors.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.A professional qualification or advanced diploma, such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or an equivalent qualification, is desirable.Advanced hands-on competency in a cloud-based ERP environment, with practical experience in project accounting and financial reporting.Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience in:Project cost control and work-in-progress analysisProgress claims and subcontractor payablesContract retentions, advances, and variationsProject profitability and margin analysisBudget-versus-actual and variance analysisProject cash-flow forecastingAccount reconciliation and financial reportingAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, data modelling, reconciliations, and analytical reporting.Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial and operational information for decision-making.High attention to detail, accuracy, accountability, and document control.Ability to manage the accounting requirements of multiple projects and meet reporting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments.Good command of written and spoken English.
