Real Estate Development Manager | Senior HousingCompensation: $140,000–$170,000 base salary.Scout is conducting a confidential search for an established real estate development company seeking a Real Estate Development Manager to lead new senior housing projects.This role combines investment analysis with responsibility for planning, approvals, construction coordination, and opening. You’ll work with design professionals, municipalities, funding partners, and operators to evaluate opportunities, resolve project issues, and guide decisions from initial feasibility through delivery.What You’ll DoEvaluate investments. Assess potential sites and acquisitions using local demand, competing properties, projected revenue, development costs, and financial returns. Build financial models and explain the assumptions behind your recommendations.Resolve development constraints. Organize property investigations and determine how land-use restrictions, infrastructure, environmental conditions, and other findings affect the proposed project.Secure approvals. Work with local officials and specialist advisers on zoning and permitting. Represent projects in public meetings and track the commitments needed to move toward construction.Shape the project. Coordinate design professionals and operating partners to establish a practical building plan. Evaluate cost and design alternatives against the investment objectives and the community’s future use.Support funding decisions. Assemble information for financing discussions and investment reviews. Maintain productive relationships with funding partners and keep project assumptions, costs, and timing up to date.Oversee delivery. Maintain an integrated project plan, address delays and budget changes, and coordinate with construction and operations teams on completion, opening readiness, and initial occupancy.What We’re Looking ForAt least seven years in real estate development, with meaningful responsibility for new-build projects across planning, approvals, and delivery.Ability to build and interpret real estate financial models, evaluate investment assumptions, and manage development spending.Practical experience obtaining land-use approvals and permits, including direct interaction with municipalities and outside advisers.Experience directing project consultants and coordinating decisions across design, construction, ownership, and operations.Clear communication and negotiation skills, supported by examples of resolving issues that threatened a project’s economics or timeline.A bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to property development, such as finance, planning, engineering, architecture, or construction management.Senior housing experience is preferred. We’ll also consider developers of residential communities, healthcare properties, or hospitality projects whose experience translates to this work. Knowledge of senior housing operating requirements and licensing is valuable, along with experience supporting investment partnerships.
