This focus on safety and student success shapes the work of all roles within the district, including public safety positions.Role Description The Public Safety Officer is a full-time, on-site role located in Michigan, United States, responsible for promoting a safe and orderly environment across district schools and facilities. Day-to-day activities include patrolling buildings and grounds, monitoring entrances, responding to incidents, and ensuring compliance with district safety policies and procedures. The role involves collaborating with school staff, administrators, and local emergency services when needed, while maintaining accurate incident reports and logs. The officer will assist with student, staff, and visitor safety, including crowd management during events, traffic and parking control, and support during drills or emergencies. This position requires consistent visibility, professional communication, and a calm, solutions-focused approach to safety concerns.Qualifications Candidates should possess skills in Public Safety and Emergency Services, including incident response, risk assessment, and basic emergency management.Candidates should possess skills in Physical Security, such as facility patrol, access control, and monitoring of safety systems and equipment.Candidates should possess skills related to Law Enforcement practices, including knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and safe, ethical intervention techniques.Candidates should possess strong Customer Service skills to interact respectfully and professionally with students, staff, families, and visitors.Additional beneficial qualifications include experience in a school or educational setting, familiarity with youth and adolescent behavior, and training in de-escalation or conflict resolution.High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of safety, security, or law enforcement training programs is preferred.Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, respond quickly in emergencies, and work a flexible schedule as needed.Clear background check, strong ethical standards, and commitment to the district’s mission of maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment.
