QA Engineer

QA Engineer (Mid–Senior) We’re looking for a hands-on QA Engineer to join our growing engineering team at Tern. This is not a typical QA role, you will be our first dedicated QA hire, owning quality end-to-end and laying the foundation for how QA scales across the company.You’ll work across web, mobile, and APIs, combining manual, exploratory, and automation testing to ensure we ship fast without compromising quality.What You’ll OwnLead manual and exploratory testing to ensure high-quality releasesDesign and build automation frameworks from scratch where neededDevelop and maintain automated test suites across:Web (Playwright / Cypress)Mobile (Detox / Maestro)APIs (Postman / Newman / Pytest)Define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and quality standards with engineering and product teamsRun regression, integration, and smoke testing for releasesOwn the bug lifecycle — from identification to resolutionIntegrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testingEstablish QA processes, tooling, and best practices as Tern scalesWhat We’re Looking For5+ years of QA experience across manual + automation testingStrong experience with Playwright or CypressExperience with mobile automation tools (Detox or Maestro)Experience with API testing (Postman/Newman or Pytest)Proficiency in Python for automationStrong JavaScript skills for test scriptingAbility to operate independently and take full ownershipStrong problem-solving and analytical thinkingClear communicator who can work cross-functionallyNice to HaveISTQB (or similar certification)Experience in fintech, payments, or loyalty platformsFamiliarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins)Why This Role MattersYou’ll define how quality works at Tern.
