The Range Safety Specialist supports the Range Safety Officer (RSO) and Range Control personnel across the installation's ranges and training areas by reviewing and recommending resolution of range and safety conflicts, monitoring compliance with Marine Corps and Base range safety policies, and conducting range safety inspections. During large unit exercises, the Range Safety Specialist may be required to operate in multiple geographic locations simultaneously to provide safety oversight and coordination.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesIn coordination with the Range Safety Officer, make recommendations to resolve range and safety conflicts for range requests not covered by the installation range SOP.Conduct a semiannual review of RFMSS facility-to-facility, facility-to-event, facility-to-ammunition, and facility-to-environment conflicts against the installation range SOP.Review all updates to the Installation Range SOP and recommend the best way to reflect these changes in RFMSS administration tables.In coordination with the Range Safety Officer, develop a range safety inspection schedule supporting the range safety inspection plan and deliver the schedule to the Range Safety Officer for approval.Inspect ranges at each installation for safety violations and verify all ranges are in working condition in accordance with the installation range SOP.Deliver range incident reports from the RFMSS ad-hoc reports module.Supplemental Duties:Work range and safety conflicts directly with using units via RFMSS-MC to adjust schedules, and input the correct Surface Danger Zone/Weapons Danger Zone (SDZ/WDZ) data for each request.Conduct a daily gate control access sheet to support Range Control staff in opening and closing gates for the next day's training.Update RSO/OIC suspension dates in RFMSS-MC at the direction of the Range Safety Officer or Range Control Officer, as needed.Conduct coordination meetings with using units to confirm training requirements and ensure correct ranges and training areas are utilized.Prepare and submit the weekly Installation Airspace report to the FAA for activities requiring use of restricted airspace, including times, locations, and altitudes.Provide range utilization reports (training data, range and ammunition utilization) in the absence of the Installation RFMSS Functional Administrator.Input qualified personnel into the RSO/OIC database upon completion of the MarineNet Range Safety Course and MCB Quantico RSO/OIC training; conduct the monthly RFMSS Range Scheduling orientation brief for new users and unit schedulers.Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneEducation/Experience/Qualification:High school diploma or equivalent.Excellent writing and communications skills, in order to coordinate effectively both internally and externally.Must have relevant analytical expertise in the following areas: communication, coordination, technical and formal writing skills, and Microsoft Office expertise.Requires resident knowledge of all Marine Corps and installation safety orders, manuals, and procedures, to include emergency procedures.Working ConditionsRequired to sit or stand for extended periods of time and maintain focus.Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.Physical Demands: Position consists of sitting or standing for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
