Position DetailsPosition: Area Safety & Quality Officer

Location: Modesto, CACompensation: $216,700 – $255,000 annuallyAnnual Target Bonus: 20%Relocation: Case-by-case eligibilityScope: Responsible for two hospitals within the service areaOnsite Requirement: The position will be onsite 100% of the time for roundingPosition OverviewThe Area Safety & Quality Officer provides strategic oversight and guidance to small- and medium-sized service areas and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of clinical quality programs and initiatives.The role serves as a senior leader and subject matter expert in clinical quality management, patient safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, and healthcare quality programs.This position will monitor performance metrics and improvement activities, promote evidence-based guidelines and practices, optimize clinical outcomes, and oversee accreditation, licensing, and regulatory activities.The role also partners with medical staff and executive leadership on peer review, practitioner performance review, quality improvement, patient safety, and risk reduction initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Area Safety & Quality Officer will:Provide strategic leadership and oversight for quality programs across the service area.Oversee operations of multiple units and/or departments.Lead clinical quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement activities.Serve as a subject matter expert on clinical quality improvement processes and regulations.Advise executive leadership and internal/external stakeholders regarding quality, regulatory, and compliance matters.Partner with practitioners, staff, management, and administrative departments to improve quality and ensure compliance.Oversee quality-of-care complaints, reviews, investigations, and related processes.Monitor quality improvement metrics, incidents, near misses, and trends.Oversee infection prevention and control programs and outbreak management.Direct risk management efforts, including corrective action plans, utilization reviews, clinical record audits, claim denials, patient satisfaction surveys, and significant-event reviews.Utilize root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and other assessment methodologies to identify and mitigate risks.Oversee patient safety programs and significant event management.Develop and implement new clinical quality improvement programs.Establish relationships with senior management, medical staff, and external stakeholders.Use healthcare data, databases, hospital discharge data, claims, vital statistics, infection control information, utilization reviews, and patient satisfaction data to drive quality strategies.Oversee regulatory audits and survey readiness activities.Serve as a primary contact during regulatory and government onsite visits and evaluations.Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.Oversee case reviews and utilization-related activities.Identify systemic concerns and work with stakeholders to improve patient care and access.Support population health and quality initiatives.Develop and maintain systems designed to reduce care delivery risks and medical errors.Required QualificationsThe ideal candidate must have:Active RN / Registered Nurse backgroundExperience leading a Quality DepartmentDirector-level experience or aboveStrong inpatient hospital experienceExperience in clinical quality/healthcare quality leadershipExperience managing complex healthcare operations and quality programsThe hiring team is specifically looking for candidates with the scope and seniority to oversee quality across multiple hospitals, rather than candidates whose experience has been limited to a single smaller department or facility.Experience with a large healthcare system or multi-hospital organization is highly preferred.Additional QualificationsThe job description lists the following minimum qualifications:Minimum 10 years of experience in clinical and management roles in a health plan or multifaceted healthcare system and multi-provider settings.Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare, Public Administration, or a directly related field, along with a minimum of 7 years of healthcare experience or directly related experience.Minimum 4 years of experience managing operational or project budgets.Minimum 9 years of experience in a leadership role, with or without direct reports.Minimum 6 years of experience with databases and spreadsheets.Minimum 4 years of experience delivering training programs.Minimum **8 years of experience in a clinical setting, healthcare administration, or directly related field.Professional Healthcare Quality Certificate is required within 24 months of hire.Ideal BackgroundThe hiring team indicated that strong candidates may come from other large healthcare systems, such as Providence, particularly individuals who have experience overseeing two or more hospital quality departments.They are looking for someone with a broader multi-hospital/system-level quality leadership scope, rather than someone whose experience is
