Regulatory Analyst | Advanced Nuclear Energy | Washington, D.C.Hanson Search is exclusively partnering with a fast-growing, venture-backed advanced nuclear energy company to appoint a Regulatory Analyst to its Washington, D.C. team.Our client is building a genuinely new global industry, deploying nuclear energy technology to serve ports, industry and grids. Much of the regulatory pathway for what they do is still being written, which makes this a rare chance to shape how a new sector is regulated from the ground up.The roleReporting to the Vice President, Regulatory and Licensing, you'll carry out the research and analysis that underpins the company's regulatory strategy in the US and internationally. You'll take a defined question, find and verify the primary sources, work out what applies and what doesn't, and set out plainly what the business needs to know before it commits.Recent work includes responding to a proposed NRC rulemaking, reviewing how long-standing federal legislation affects the build and operation of new energy infrastructure, and early work on environmental permitting at a candidate US site.Day to day, you will:Research and organize primary sources, from statutes and regulator guidance to treaties, standards and dockets, and assess how they applyCompare frameworks across jurisdictions and identify gaps, precedents and open questionsProduce gap analyses, briefing notes, applicability matrices and regulatory summaries for senior reviewDraft input to rulemaking comments, consultation responses and position papersMonitor developments from the NRC, EPA, USCG, IAEA and other relevant bodies, flagging what matters and whyPrepare briefings for regulator meetings and industry forums, and work closely with Engineering, Legal, Government Affairs and Business DevelopmentWhat they're looking forYou don't need a nuclear background. Our client wants people who understand how a demanding regulatory environment works, in whichever sector they learned it.Around 2–5 years' experience in a regulatory, licensing, policy, legal or analytical role (strong candidates at the lower end are encouraged to apply)Experience in a complex or heavily regulated sector, such as energy and utilities, maritime, infrastructure, aviation, rail, defense, pharma, medical devices, financial services or telecomsA background in a regulator, government, law firm, consultancy, think tank, trade association, industry or a congressional office would all be relevantExcellent written English and strong primary-source research skillsSound judgment with incomplete information, and comfort working with ambiguityA degree in law, policy, international relations, engineering, science, economics or a related fieldAuthorized to work in the US, able to meet requirements for access to controlled information, and willing to travel occasionallyWhat's on offer$70,000–$80,000 base, plus up to 10% bonusGreat benefits package
