Our current programs include therapeutic antibody development for serious emerging infectious diseases and solid tumors, as well as immune-profiling platforms designed to identify and characterize immunological insights and translate them into better clinical outcomes for patients.We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant to join a small, highly collaborative team working at the interface of immunology, biotechnology, and translational product development. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, careful experimental execution, and contributing directly to developing new platforms with real-world biomedical impact.Role DescriptionThe Research Assistant / Associate – Immunology and Immune Profiling is a full-time, on-site position based in New York, NY. The successful candidate will work closely with the scientific team to perform molecular cloning and protein-engineering workflows, execute cell-based immunology assays, support engineered cell-line development, and help generate high-quality datasets linking immune-cell phenotype, antibody function, and B-cell receptor sequence.This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on laboratory skills who enjoys working across immunology, cell biology, assay development, and translational biotechnology. The successful candidate should be comfortable troubleshooting complex experimental workflows and creatively solving technical challenges in a fast-moving startup environment. This position involves molecular DNA cloning, protein engineering, mammalian cell culture, primary human immune-cell assays, multicolor flow cytometry, antibody and cytokine detection assays, and support for single-cell and immune-repertoire workflows.Candidates with an interest in computational immunology, BCR repertoire analysis, or single-cell data interpretation are especially encouraged to apply. The position offers an opportunity to gain experience across the full experimental workflow, from molecular and cellular engineering through primary human immunology, functional antibody assays, single-cell profiling, and BCR repertoire analysis, while contributing directly to the development of a new biotechnology platform.Key ResponsibilitiesMolecular and protein engineering: Perform molecular biology, recombinant protein, and protein-engineering workflows, including DNA cloning, plasmid preparation, PCR, construct tracking and sequence verification, recombinant protein expression, and characterization to support mammalian expression and viral-vector systems.Cell engineering and culture: Engineer, maintain, and characterize mammalian cell lines and support the development of robust and reproducible cell-based experimental systems.Primary-cell immunology and functional assays: Handle primary human immune-cell samples, including PBMCs and enriched B-cell populations, and perform in vitro assays evaluating B-cell activation, proliferation, differentiation, and antibody-secreting cell responses.Flow cytometry and immune profiling: Perform multicolor flow cytometry for immune-cell phenotyping, activation, proliferation, viability, and antigen-specific B-cell detection, and support single-cell and multi-omic immune-profiling workflows.Data analysis and experimental documentation: Organize, analyze, and interpret experimental data using FlowJo, Excel, Prism, or related software; maintain detailed experimental records, protocols, sample metadata, and reagent inventories; and compile and present results at lab meetings.Platform development and laboratory operations: Help establish robust, scalable, and reproducible experimental workflows; contribute to shared laboratory operations, including procurement, inventory management, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance; and collaborate with internal and external scientific partners, including genomics cores, assay-development partners, and computational collaborators.Basic QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, biotechnology, or a related life-science field.At least 2 years of hands-on research experience using molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, assay development, or related laboratory techniques.Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique, including routine maintenance and experimental use of established mammalian cell lines.Core Technical QualificationsIn addition to the basic qualifications above, candidates should have demonstrated hands-on experience in at least three of the following areas:Molecular cloning, including bacterial transformation, colony selection, plasmid preparation, PCR, restriction enzyme digestion, construct tracking, and sequence verification.Antibody, protein, and immunoassay workflows, including hands-on experience with multiple techniques such as ELISA, cytokine detection, antibody-binding assays, Western blotting, recombinant protein expression, or related assays.Primary human immune-cell workflows, including experience handling PBMCs, B cells, T cells, or other primary immune-cell populations.Multicolor flow cytometry and analysis, including antibody staining, compensation, gating, and analysis using FlowJo or an equivalent platform.Cell-based functional assays, including co-culture systems, proliferation assays, viability assays, immune-cell activation assays, or related functional readouts.Advanced QualificationsCandidates are not expected to have experience in all of the areas listed below; the following skills and experience are advantageous but not required:Experience with B-cell biology, humoral immunology, antibody-secreting cell differentiation, antigen-specific B-cell detection, or immune-profiling assays.Experience with lentiviral transduction, transient transfection, stable cell-line generation, mammalian expression systems, or synthetic biology workflows.Experience working with HEK293T, Jurkat, Expi293, CHO, or other commonly used mammalian expression, reporter, or engineered support-cell systems.Familiarity with antibody discovery workflows, including recombinant antibody expression, IgG production, antigen-binding assays, or cell-based antibody screening.Experience with FACS sorting, single-cell sample preparation, 10x Genomics workflows, scRNA-seq, scBCR-seq, CITE-seq, or related single-cell technologies.Familiarity with computational analysis of immunology datasets, including flow cytometry analysis, BCR/TCR repertoire analysis, clonotype analysis, antibody sequence annotation, or single-cell transcriptomics.Experience with analysis tools or programming languages such as R, Python, Cell Ranger, MiXCR, IgBLAST, Change-O/Immcantation, Seurat, Scanpy, or similar platforms.Experience with microfluidics, secretion-based assays, high-throughput screening, lab automation, liquid-handling systems, or automation-compatible assay development.Experience working with external core facilities, CROs, sequencing providers, computational collaborators, or multi-institutional scientific teams.Compensation and BenefitsThe expected salary range for this position is $60,000–$68,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, technical skill set, and level of independence. Candidates with strong hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, multicolor flow cytometry, primary immune-cell assays, or immune-profiling workflows, as well as demonstrated ability to independently execute and troubleshoot experimental workflows, will be considered toward the higher end of the range.Ichor Biologics offers medical benefits, paid time off, and paid holidays.
