Research Associate

Company Description Marga Institute, founded in 1972 under the Companies Act of Sri Lanka, is an independent non-profit Center for Development Studies dedicated to advancing knowledge on socio-economic development. The Institute conducts extensive multidisciplinary research and analysis on past and present development processes in Sri Lanka. Its work is closely linked to public dissemination through education and training programs, publications, and Civil Society Forum discussions. Marga Institute offers researchers the opportunity to contribute to evidence-based policy discourse and development practice in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.Role Description The Research Associate role is a full-time hybrid position based in Sri Lanka, with a combination of on-site work at Marga Institute and some work-from-home flexibility. The Research Associate will support the design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative research projects, including literature reviews, data collection, data cleaning, and analysis. Typical responsibilities include drafting research proposals, preparing research instruments, conducting fieldwork or stakeholder interviews, and maintaining accurate documentation of methodologies and findings. The role involves contributing to research reports, policy briefs, and publications, as well as assisting in presentations, workshops, and Civil Society Forum events. The Research Associate will collaborate with senior researchers, partners, and community stakeholders to ensure that research outputs are rigorous, relevant, and accessible.Qualifications Strong research skills, including literature review, qualitative and quantitative methods, and basic data analysis.Ability to draft clear and well-structured reports, briefs, and academic-style documents, with attention to accuracy and detail.Competence in using standard office and data tools (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software; familiarity with statistical or qualitative analysis software is an advantage).Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with diverse stakeholders and contribute to team-based projects.Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality work in a hybrid environment.Bachelor’s degree or higher in social sciences, economics, development studies, public policy, or a related field.Interest in Sri Lanka’s socio-economic development and commitment to evidence-based analysis and non-partisan research.Prior experience in research, fieldwork, or project support in academic, non-profit, or policy settings is an asset.
