We are seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in the R&D of biosensing, implantable or in-vivo medical device technologies to help develop a next-generation, fully implantable system for continuous biomarker monitoring. Working across the complete system, you will investigate, model and prototype new technologies spanning mechanical systems, materials, electronics, energy and communications, solving complex multidisciplinary challenges that will shape the next generation of the device. This is an exceptional opportunity for a scientifically rigorous and practically minded researcher who enjoys solving complex problems from first principles. Working within a multidisciplinary R&D team, you will combine theoretical modelling and simulation with hands-on experimentation and characterisation, developing proof-of-concept technologies and establishing how they will perform within a challenging biological environment. The role offers genuine scientific and engineering depth, with the opportunity to generate new ideas, develop intellectual property and contribute directly to an emerging healthcare technology. The Company We are a innovative healthcare technology company developing novel sensing platforms designed to generate continuous biological insight in an area of medicine that remains poorly understood. Our work combines advanced engineering, sensing technologies, materials science, embedded systems, and human physiology. This is a highly collaborative R&D environment where scientists and engineers work across traditional discipline boundaries to investigate complex system-level challenges. The successful candidate will contribute directly to modelling activities, experimental investigations, prototype development, and technology evaluation work supporting the evolution of future platform technologies. This opportunity would suit someone who is intellectually curious, scientifically rigorous, and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to ambitious research within a technically strong and collaborative team environment. The RoleAs Research Scientist, you will contribute to technical investigations into novel device and system technologies for implantable monitoring systems, combining modelling, experimental research, and hands-on laboratory work to evaluate future technology capabilities.Responsibilities are likely to include:Supporting the modelling and simulation of materials, mechanical behaviour, and system-level device featuresContributing to the development of mechanical components, PCB-based systems, fixtures, and research test rigsExperimental design, system verification testing, and performance characterisationScientific programming and data analysis using tools such as PythonInterpretation and presentation of evidence-based research findingsProduction of scientific reports and technical documentationSupporting invention disclosures and intellectual property generationDevelopment of proof-of-concept research prototypesContributing to multidisciplinary research activities spanning engineering, materials, electronics, and biological systemsThe successful candidate will be expected to apply strong scientific rigour, demonstrate structured problem-solving capability, and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment. To be considered for this role of Research Scientist – Implantable Biosensing Systems, you will likely have:Knowledge & ExperienceA PhD, or equivalent industry experience, in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related technical disciplineExperience contributing to complex or multidisciplinary research projectsA track record of scientific contribution through publications, patents, or technical project workFamiliarity with firmware scripting or scientific programming tools such as PythonDemonstrable knowledge of finite element modelling, tools, and techniquesExperience designing and conducting robust experimental investigationsExperience analysing data and drawing evidence-based conclusionsTechnical ExperienceWe are particularly interested in candidates with experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:Biosensing system technologiesMaterialsMechanical systemsExperimental system developmentPCB development or electronics integrationTest rig or fixture developmentVerification or validation testingImplantable device technologiesElectronics miniaturisationBiocompatible materialsEncapsulation technologiesWorking with biological fluidsPhysiologyWireless data systemsSkills & ApproachA naturally curious and research-driven mindsetStrong analytical and problem-solving capability, with an ability to approach complex challenges from first principlesStrong experimental design and laboratory practice capabilityCreativity and technical originality, with an interest in solving challenging multidisciplinary problemsThe ability to organise and prioritise your own work effectivelyStrong written and verbal communication skillsThe ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary technical team. Additional Experience (Desirable)Experience working within fast-paced R&D environments, start-ups, or research spinoutsFamiliarity with implantable or active medical device technologiesThe OpportunityThis role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging problems within a scientifically rigorous and highly collaborative environment. For the right individual, it provides substantial opportunity for technical development, exposure to multidisciplinary R&D, and the chance to contribute to the evolution of an emerging healthcare technology platform.
