Apply & track with Apply EdgeLocomotion Robotics Engineer – Cafeteria & F&B Service Robots
These robots move safely through busy spaces, carry trays and food orders, and work alongside staff and customers. You'll own how our robots move: stable, smooth and safe locomotion while carrying food and drinks in crowded, unpredictable environments. What you'll doDesign and develop the drive or walking system (wheeled, differential-drive, omnidirectional or legged) for robots that carry trays, plates and beverages without spilling.Build motion control that handles acceleration, braking and turning smoothly, with limits on jerk and tilt to protect liquids and stacked items.Integrate navigation and obstacle avoidance using LiDAR, depth cameras, ultrasonic and bump sensors so robots move safely around people, chairs, tables and trolleys.Implement mapping and localization (SLAM) for cafeteria layouts, including multi-floor spaces, narrow aisles and changing furniture arrangements.Develop safety behaviour: emergency stop, speed reduction near people, collision detection, and safe recovery from slips or blocked paths.Design load-carrying systems such as trays, shelves or compartments that keep balance with shifting weight, and work with mechanical engineers on stability.Test robots in real kitchens and dining halls, on wet or greasy floors, ramps, thresholds and during peak-hour crowds.Work with firmware and software teams on fleet coordination, table delivery routes, and integration with ordering or POS systems. What you bringA B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in robotics, mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering.Hands-on experience building mobile robots, from motor selection to control.Strong knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, motor control (PID and beyond) and sensor fusion (IMU, wheel encoders).Experience with ROS/ROS 2 and navigation stacks (Nav2 or similar), SLAM and path planning.Programming in C++ and Python. An understanding of safety design for robots working near the public.Nice to haveExperience with delivery, hospitality or warehouse robots (AMRs).Legged locomotion or active balancing experience.Knowledge of food-contact material requirements and hygiene-friendly design (easy-to-clean surfaces, sealed enclosures, water resistance).Familiarity with FSSAI hygiene expectations for kitchen equipment, or with robot safety standards such as ISO 13482.Experience deploying robots at customer sites and supporting them after launch.
