Applicants join a collaborative community committed to student success and continuous improvement.Role Description The School Counselor is a full-time, on-site role located in Wilmington, DE, supporting students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. In this role, the counselor provides individual and group counseling, develops and implements guidance lessons, and works with students, families, and staff to address academic challenges and personal concerns. The counselor collaborates with teachers and administrators to design interventions, support behavior and attendance initiatives, and contribute to schoolwide programs that promote a positive and inclusive climate. Daily responsibilities include conducting assessments, maintaining accurate records, participating in student support and crisis response teams, and referring students to external resources when needed. The School Counselor also assists students with course planning, postsecondary exploration, and transitions between grade levels, ensuring equitable access to support services.Qualifications Demonstrated skills in Student Counseling and Counseling to support diverse learners’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.Experience or training in Career Counseling to guide students through postsecondary planning, goal setting, and decision-making.Foundational knowledge in Psychology and Mental Health to recognize signs of distress, provide appropriate support, and collaborate with mental health professionals.Valid state certification or licensure as a School Counselor, or eligibility to obtain such credentials in Delaware.Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field strongly preferred.Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.Commitment to equity, inclusion, and confidentiality, and adherence to professional and ethical counseling standards.Experience in a K–12 school setting and familiarity with MTSS/RTI, IEP and 504 processes, and crisis intervention practices is beneficial.
